Thanks for reading

I have been doing my model for some time now and although it is only 1894 polys the file size is just shy of 20MB! It also takes ages to save and manipulate the model. Does anyone know how I managed to make it so big (no are textures are loaded) and how I can reduce the size of the file?

Thank you

Btw any constructive criticism would be welcome as well :)

first off unhinde all objects in the scene and see if hteres something in the background perhaps ..other than that i think the best thing u can do is go to start > settings > control pannel add/remove > search for xsi in the list and click remove .
that should solve all ur problems.

Thanks for the reply mindless_moder, unfortunately thought tips did not help :(.

I have been looking at the explorer and for the polymesh that covers both the main body of the pistol and the sights I have made a huge number of changes. It also seems to be that part that is causing the problem, as that part took a decade to load.

So do you know how I can get it to dump all the changes the to poly mesh but leave me with the current polymesh, therefore leaving me with a slim line file?

Cheers again

try freezing your models before you editing them if xsi is running slow. I don't know what you meant by your last question though.

what do you meen dump all the changes? you can undo changes but not after uve closed xsi. on the right side click on scene and check there isnt any hidden models cuz sometimes unhide all doesnt work. maybe you have a virus that makes files seem bigger than they are.

What I mean is that I do not understand why XSI is keeping this massive change log under: explorer -> scene_root -> Ploymesh -> Polygon Mesh (see below)

It is so big it is slowing down the computer and I think taking up the majority of the file space. How do I delete this change log but hold on to my current polymesh.

If I just start to delete stuff then I will progressively undo my changes until I get back to the original shape, like a cube for example.

This goes on for a few more pages

Thanks again :)

oooh i see. well then this meens your .xsi file is 20mbs so when you expoted to smd it would be normal size. i have no idea how to fix this as ive never heard of it happen before. maybe somewhere you have accidently selected it to have no limit to the log it keeps. you could email softimage and ask them. try opening a new file and seeing if it still does this. because if not then you could export it and import it into the new file. also try searching google for bugs in xsi to see if there is another forum where this bug has happened. there is also a forum on the softimage website.
