You've just become a witness to a murder.

You don't know if the murder was the result of organized crime, though you have suspicions that it very well could be.

What would you do?

NOTE: There is no poll because I don't want there to be canned answers. I want real responses on how people would react to this sort of life changing situation where you could potentially find yourself in harms way, or perhaps you wouldn't.

EDIT*EDITED BASED ON A FEW STATEMENTS FROM BELOW*: I guess perhaps I was way too vague, even though that was sort of the point. I wanted to see how people would feel they'd behave in a situation where they were a witness to a murder and you have all these circumstances where witness victims can become targets for intimidation or murder because of what they have seen, before they even get a chance to sit on the witness chair.

The feeling that you don't know if you will be thrust into that scenario, or if it will be the sort of situation where the law completely protects you and the murderer isn't connected and is so small time he can't really feasibly reach you.

Because it won't always be a situation where you'll testify but then you're threatened and you back out and so they leave you alone.

Me personally? I don't know if I would have it in me. I'd be so scared for my life and I know there are still serious elements of organized and semi-organized crime out there, so I'd constantly be worrying for the worst. I can't honestly say that the answer for me will always be a definitive "yes, I will testify and carry this out to the end, even if it means my life is in danger because it's the right thing to do".

It wasn't so much about the elements of the crime as it was to determine if people would all take the 'typical route' of claiming they'd do all the morally right things. Because even though that happens a lot in this world, it also doesn't... people are influenced for whatever reasons to not be the witness they are supposed to be. People aren't always straight shooters and don't always step up to the plate when they know they should even if they really want to.

I don't know if I can explain any better. :(

So you would go through with being the star witness in the case?

A lot of people wouldn't and don't.

Your situation is very vague, so it depends a bit on the details, but normally I'd ring up the police.

Other factors to consider:
Do I know the victim? Do I know the attacker? Was I identified? Was there a reason I witnessed the murder? Am I also innocent? Where did it happen? What time of day was it? What kind of criminal organization are we talking about? What is the legal system and the police force like in the place that I saw this happen? Was the murder planned? Was it a shooting? Were there multiple victims? Were there other witnesses? Were there multiple perpetrators? Did I witness the circumstances before or after the event?

check the dead person for valuables.
run away
call the cops anonymously
leave the county / state / country / planet - as necessary.

First thing would be to see if Cartman's theory about people pooping the moment they die is actually true. Cartman-"Ha ha ha! you owe me five bucks jew!" Kyle-"Shut up fatass!"

Yes I would.

Now if they threatened me... I would shit myself and just go home. Not my problem.

It is true. That really does happen, though not all the time. Most of the time it does though.

Say that again Raziaar, I missed it the first time.

Frankly, im not risking my own neck in the name of justice for some dead dude. If I feel like im in any danger, ill just say **** it, im outta here.

don't forget to loot the corpse. those high level mobs drop good loot

If they killed another criminal, I wouldn't care and certainly wouldn't put my life on the line. If it was someone innocent, I dunno, perhaps.

I'd cross-dress to join an all-female jazz band and travel to Miami with them.

Nobody's perfect.

I'd call the cops and then think about consequences. Then there'd be no turning back.

And I'd buy some pepper spray, a handgun and a whole lot of ammo. And I'd play that murder simulator... GTA.

You'd best keep out of it Raziaar, if you know whats good for you.

PS: Snitches get stiches, etc.

Call the cops anonymously and forget the whole matter, feeling slight guilt for not wanting to help out away the thug, but remembering the desire not to end up like the victim is a pretty good reason to sherk the responsibility of putting away a gangster who will easily be replaced, and reminding myself its not my job or responsibility to solve the human nature that causes elements of a society to take up crime violence and killing.

On the other hand if they had killed someone I know, especially a close friend or relative, I'de ****ing be at that courtroom even if I had to live in fear of a hit for months in hiding.

i'd make an anonymous call at a phonebooth and then wait it out to see what comes up in the news , if it happens to be an internal gang/mafia related thing then theres really no point to it . however if the person was innocent and they need witnesses i'd probably step up to the plate. well atleast thats how i see it now , besides if CSI has taught me anything theres more than enough evidence to force a confession during the last few minutes of the ..... show.

They've got a number her in holland where you can anonymously phone to leave tips - which i would do - so that nobody gets hurt : ) yeey for anonymousisiciticy

My friends and I once saw a murder in Chinatown. There was this old man sleeping on a bench in a park, and we were like, "That's nice, he's enjoying a nap in the sun." But then we looked closer and his EAR was touching his CHEST. Neck = snapped. Being Chinatown, could've had something to do with organized crime, so we didn't say shit.

You didn't see a murder, you saw a dead body.

Loose lips sink ships.

So your mother must be a ****ing nuclear sub.

On topic, it really REALLY depends on the circumstances.

If it's fairly obvious that it was a crime of passion/spur of the moment deal then i'm calling the cops and telling all.

It it was a bunch of men in suits doing the deed on somebody I didn't know, i'd tax the guys wallet to hell and back and run. I didn't see SHIT.

If it was a bunch of hoodrats in baggy jeans and ecko gear, i'd play snitch, ONLY if it weren't my neighborhood. If I saw it done like a block away, ****, tax the corpse and run...

If it was a pretty good friend of mine, then i'm playing snitch, circumstances be damned.
