i think it's pretty good. . obviously needs some polishing. ZM controls feel kind of rough, but surprisingly good for an FPS game. that and the guns need some tuning. . .
 
I just tried to play it for 40 mins but never got to.

First no servers showed up (no filters active) it said it couldn't contact the master server. I close and reopen ZM, oops, memory error, try again, memory error. Try again, I'm in. I join a server wait for around 5 minutes just chatting and waiting for the round to end. Round ends *Crash*. I start up again, join. Wait another 5 minutes or so, round begins - server kills me. Wait another 5+ minutes, server kills me. Wash, rinse repeat. In 5 rounds I never got to spawn :(

Apparently the map is only made for 6 survivors or something so it doesn't know what to do with everybody else that is supposed to spawn ;(

I REALLY wanted to try this out too. Looks like I'll wait for the next version whenever it comes.
 
I've played a few rounds but playing in US servers sucks because when I grab an object it lags like crap. I'd love to play on a local server because it is very fun.

The map supports 16 players, however there's a slight (!) bug that can cause the spawn deaths. We've got a patch just about ready to go (we're testing it at the moment) that addresses it, and other problems.

Nice. Looking forward to it. I'm glad you guys are taking the "Release early and often" approach.
 
Heh, if we waited for all the maps to be done, it'd be a 2010 release at the earliest.
 
got to play, dear god those fasties are annoying.

stuff i'd like to see.

-some more indication of when you get a headshot or are hitting, bigger blood poofs are in order
-tighter cone on the shotguns
-slower leap animation for the fasties, it seems like they practically teleport when they leap forward
 
I just played for an hour or so and I agree with those 3 things.

Otherwise very cool mod. I'm almost unbeatable as zombie master :D
 
side note, much better to see the changelog 50 times then have to search for it.
 
My $0.02

It is like every other zombie game that I have ever played (with the exeption of dead rising) in that it is difficult because the zombies have massive HP and the player weapons suck, rather than having many enemies to fight. The ones that jump should be slightly weaker to make up for their speed, not more difficult than a standard shambler! The big purple ones (can't remember their name) is about perfect, although it still takes between 3-4 shotgun blasts to kill. The rifle is not accurate at all, the pistol is pitiful, taking 4-5 headshots to kill a standard shambler, and the shotgun would be cool if it didn't spread as much. The only way I've found to survive is to hover around the ammo spawn with the shotgun and just blow shells into anyting that gets close. If I have anything other than the shotgun or rifle, I don't even bother trying to kill anything, becuase it is an excercise in futility. Maybe tweaking the damage up would help? I dunno...

I never got to play as the Zombie Master in my 10 hours of game time (I switched servers every hour or so, so it may have been just a coincidence) but I don't know how the ZM is picked either. From what I have heard the control setup is difficult to get used to, but I will wait until I have actually played it first.

Also, I was rather suprised by the lack of an SMG or automatic rifle. Maybe these will be included in future releases? Or will these weapon types be omitted altogether in favor of more/different shotguns/pistols/hammers? A flamethrower or similar area effect weapon would be nice, as would explosives in addition to the barrels. Or is this the entire planned weapon set?

Anyways... just my thoughts.
 
Your points have been addressed in the patch we're trying to roll out. We've stuffed in a machine pistol, and the logic for picking who gets to be the ZM is much improved.

You might be on some pretty high ping servers. Two or three pistol shots to a Shambler's cranium will drop it, and it only takes two to drop a Banshee. Unless there's lag, because that makes hitbox detection more difficult.

The rifle zooms with alternate fire ;)

I want the zombies to be more vocal. And use the reversed "Pleh dog" sounds from the original zombies, as placeholders if no more.

It takes a minute or two of poking around, but it really is not difficult. You can toggle between screen edge and centered looking as well.

I would like to see an alternate option for moving up and down in ZM mode, as my wireless mouse sometimes has no power, and my trackball has no scrollwheel. :/
