I only see this game mentioned in passing in other threads. Is anyone else totally hyped about this game? The E3 and G4 videos look very promising. It's based on the Doom 3 engine which is both good and bad. Good because the light rendering is superb and the physics and graphics are okay. Bad because we're spoiled by the Source engine (with superb graphics and physics).

I'm specifically looking forward to the following:
Gravity switches: neat gimmick - will add an interesting feature to pitched battles. Besides the switches, it appears that they've coded relative gravity fields. The scene where you land on the asteroid the mothership has in tow is a good example of this. The asteroid has its own local gravity, but when you nail the enemy, he goes flying off into space (presumably towards earth's gravity well). There are also the wall-walking tracks, which bring back fond memories of the alien character from AVP2.

Portals: look cool, but I'm not sure how they'll be implemented in the game. Can you create or use one on the fly, and how will this affect a linear storyline?

Enemies: any game with a very large variety of enemies (not just "classes" of enemies) is off to a good start with me, and every single one I've seen in the videos looks cool.

Environment: has the interest in organic/technological fusion found in so many games become saturated? Not for me!

Storyline: has the interest in alien invasion found in so many games become saturated? Not for me! This isn't so much as an invasion as (apparently) total ownage. I'm sketchy about the storyline details, but an organic mothership with castes of different critters 'running' it sounds like fun to me.

Spiritwalking(?): another interesting game feature. Do I attack this guy head on, or do I find a hiding place, spiritwalk, and try to nail him before he finds my body? The spirit world used to "cheat death" and return you to gameplay is at least a marginal improvement over F9.

Puzzles: not sure. I guess it depends on the puzzle, if it's used to pace the game or as a 'feature' of the game.

Vehicles: I've only seen one vehicle used (the ship) but it has a gravity gun. It'll probably behave like the gravity gun from Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. I seem to recall reading that there might be other vehicles in the game.

Weapons: again, I'm still a sucker for a fusion of organic/technological art. The 'grenades' are apparently the legs of an explosive crab-critter.

Seriously, is anyone else looking forward to this game? :imu:

I think the graphics is not ok , its great

Doesn't sound that bad, lets just hope we are not spoilt when Stalker comes around the corner

Yeah, it uses the Doom 3 engine. 2006 is still when they expect to release it. I thought I read March somewhere?

It is an Xbox360 title, but I think it was a late entry, so hopefully the conversion to the console won't slow down the release to PC

Did you see the G4 trailer? I thought the game had a good variety of bad guys before I even saw this.

The guy with no head coming at me actually made my jaw drop.

...just read on another website. Xbox release February next year, PC release March. Time will tell though.
The G4 movie had more of the little "posessed" girls. After watching the first movie (E3), I figured the wraith (or whatever it's called) posessed her, did it's thing, then dropped her. There's a scene where you fight her when she's posessed that makes me think there's more. That'll be a disturbing match. :(

First when I saw pictures of it, I thought it looked mediocre. But after seen a long, probably more than 7 minutes, video of it from PSM2 (A Playstation 2 fan magazine) my interest actually went up pretty much.
The beginning (by the looks of it :P) sure looks hot, just seeing the roof being teared apart and people getting sucked up really satisfied me. :)

In the video the player got killed, but when he got killed it looked like he took control of his spirit, much like in Soul Reaver. Am I right or completely of the track?

I have been following this game since the E3...cant wait!

It does look rather good. It's just particularly interesting how utterly mother****ing incredible-huge the spaceship is.

what interest me more of this game is the originality
maybe by looking at the screens you will say "omfg doom3 whit new guns and monster!" but I ha saw a video of it and it looks very original, sure one of the most original games coming

man i cant wait for this game to come out looks great also i cant wait for timeshift to come out looks promising also

Yeah - you don't just start over, you go to that place and shoot the spirits. If you hit enough of them, you see your spirit drop down the hole back to 'reality'. Apparently, the more you hit, the more life you start over with.

...good questions about engine choice though. If I'm a game company, what would influence my game engine choice? Ease of programming? Cheaper licensing? Graphic superiority? What other games (not just mods) are using the Source engine?

An Update from Chris Rhinehart

So just what the hell has been going on lately at Human Head? Prey is completely playable from start to finish. The team has been crunching on bug fixing and optimization. The testers have been finding tons of little bugs here and there -- ranging from clipping issues to creatures not behaving correctly, to an incorrect piece of art. Those bugs are typical for this stage in the project and we're diving in to fix these problems.

:bounce: I can't wait!:imu:

one word:
innovative

one of my most anticipated games for sure

I hadn't heard about this until now, but you've definitely peaked my interest. So far, what I've seen looks fantastic! Thanks for the news.

Of course I can't wait for this one. The first screens I saw from it made me fear another Doom3/Quake4 clone, but the trailers and better information about it that has been released lead me to believe that this is going to be very different and probably much better (i.e. more diverse and fun) than the two aforementioned titles. Should be one of the best titles of 2006.

You can create these kind of portals in Quake IV, just run the editor and do some stuff and it will work! Its actually pretty cool!
