Yes but thats more to do with future proofing the engine and not the expectation we will see such cards soon...Murray said:Isn't there an option in Doom3 where you need 512MB of videocard memory?

I do not el'understand'o....please explain.Asus said:They are coming but it will start pushing the limits of Virtual memory on PCs, with GART and all. 64bit is needed not too far into the future to open up the Virtual memory limitations.
no.... a 256 MB card is what they recormend if you want the maximum graphics out of the game. So i doubt that it would "choke" it.PHATXUIQ said:512 unecessary say what brotha!!!!

is that really true,or is it just something that id has come up with?Murray said:Isn't there an option in Doom3 where you need 512MB of videocard memory?
TrippyG said:u can have a 512Mb video card if u make a bridged connection with 2 256Mb cards... I read somewhere that some company sells these kinda cards

Asus said:Virtual memory is limited to 4GB's and 1-2GB's of that is reserved by the OS on 32Bit systems. That leaves the user with 2GB's of virtual memory.
Virtual memory tries to match every address and map it to physical memory. When you add more GFX card memory you are also increasing how much Virtual memory you take up.
Also with larger apeture sizes (GART), they also take up more of that virtual memory addressing space.
Now there is a way to reduce the OS reserve to 1GB but we are very close to hitting the 4GB limit with our 32Bit systems. 64Bit is needed to be able to address above 4GB's. 64Bit isn't about System RAM but Virtual memory.
