Wow, sorry to offend any noobs but i havn't been in the forums for like a week or so and theres like 10-15 posts from noobs about HL2 stuff, like how to play... whats going on here? why the huge wave of nubs anyone know??

Well Half-Life didn't reach its selling peak until after 3 years, so maybe that's got something to do with it :p

I think becuase basic consumer computer hardware is finally getting to the point where even the cheapest computers are powerful enough to play half life 2...whereas back in 2004 you needed a very powerful one for the time...and also all the news about mods and CSS/DODS and Steam is getting new players to buy it too.

No sorry, I admire your insight but surely even now the cheapest computers don't have graphics accelerators, do they? Even more powerful integrated graphics aren't really good enough to play HL2...

I may be wrong on this count, I don't keep track of the market when I'm not looking to buy.

As long as these noobs don´t keep asking who the hell is Gman I´m comfy enough.

We just got past the Holiday season a couple months ago, and surely a lot of people got the game (Much like I did) as a gift. Then after playing it, perhaps they finally began searching for more info on it, and came across this place? Not that I would know anything about such an occurance.

Most of my friends are very familiar with Halo but still don't know what Half-life 2 is. It is either because they have shitty computers or they think computer games are for nerds and x-box games are cool..I dunno. They range in age from 19 to 30. Anyway, it doesn't surprise me that new players keep showing up.

I know what you mean, I think its because of Valve's lack of advertising.

I mean, when did you last see an ad for HL2 on TV? I find unless you read forums and are part of gaming communities you would hardly know anything about HL2.

There could be a few reasons:

1. Aftermath is coming out, people are rusing to play the predecessor.
2. CS getting more popular for whatever reason, and Half Life 2 comes with it.
3. Computers are getting cheaper that can run Half Life 2(I played it in an ok sense on a $400 computer.
4. Some people are slow.
5 It could be possible that mods such as SIN Episodes or the other popular ones are drawing people in.
6. Half Life 2 is awesome! Who wouldn't want it? GO OUT AND BUY ANOTHER COPY!

Here's my situ:

a) I'm a PC gamer, of the strategic/RTS stripe, however, RTS games are boring now (not enough investment relative to FPSs?)

b) I'm a PC gamer, but was overawed by Halo, and made the move to FPSs, however, Halo 2 is finally becoming old, to some.

c) My Halo 2 friends have moved on to CoD2, which I think is a bore, because I don't like Xbox 360.

d) Game-of-the-year version of HL2 promises to offer a full HL experience.

e) I like this forum's familiar interface and font size. :)

Thus, I've moved to HL2, and am loving it.

I'm a little hesitant to jump to MP, because I still find myself pushing "e" instead of "r" to reload, wondering how to switch weapons effectively, and what sensitivity level is best.

November 2004
edit: and FYI, I haven't really watched TV since then, so the X-Box version may have been on too.

Eh, not quite to the extent of the Silver Package, when it was available.

The friend that introduced me to CounterStrike:Source has never played Half Life 1 or 2, though he has 2.

I had HL1 for 3 years before I played through it.

The majority of people don't follow these things as closely as the hardcore fans. I just want a fun game and when I'm done with it I might go back to other games that came out the same time, even if it is a couple years old.

There's no way playing on an X-box is less geeky then playing on a computer.

It is. Because since geekyness and coolness are perceptions made by people and most people seem to think that way then it is.

You can set the keys in options to E to reload if you please (Just switch what was for E to something else, presumably R would be better for you)
