Didnt want to post this in the general thread cause im afraid of all of you in there.... eah-h-h-h....

anyways i've allwaysed like the "ahh" music in games.. like chior songs where they're singing in latin (whatever) or just plain Ahhh... It ads such a large dramatic effect and feeling to the game.. sometimes it makes you want to cry.... lol or it pumps your heart up... i know it did for me!

Example of ahh music:

Title screen of Hitman 2

Music in Freedom Fighters Demo

... you know.. chior music

sooths the soul!

I dunno about you but i'd like to see some of this in HL2!!!

Do you think so too? does that kind of music make a game .. better?

Hmm maybe. I don't know if thats really what Valve is looking for though.

negativo. Just doesnt seem to fit Half-Life's theme to me. I like the technoish kinda music it has.

Choir for me = Halo, cos master chief is a proper-looking hero (all genetically modded, wearing his sweet armour, yet hiding his face) and is more saviour like therefore a choir seems more appropriate

Gordon was not as bred to be a hero so the powerful music probably wouldnt suit the game

Wow that makes no sense :D :)

I know the kind you're talking about, and this is a bit more techno-oriented but there are fantastic vocals in it.
ES Posthumus "Ebla" and "Antissa". there are short bits of both songs on their website (the real songs are 6+ minutes each), here are the links:

http://www.esposthumus.com/images/Ebla.mp3
http://www.esposthumus.com/images/Antissa.mp3

(Ebla was actually the background music in the Japanese Matrix Reloaded Trailer >> http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/rl_cmp/reloaded_trailer_jp_480.html )

God, both of those sound clips are really good. Although the Vocoder thingy on Antissa is a bit iffy.

Yeah see thats the thing. I think that music sounds great, but HL2 is mostly sci-fi oriented with a bit of humor. So hearing that while dropping dupsters on Combine soldiers would sound weird at the very least.

If they make some serious or dramatic chapters in the game I think it could work.

Maybe it could come on when you go into a church and see that Gordon Freeman glass window thing. AAAAAAAAAH!

Well isnt that weird - i was listening to Ebla about half an hour ago, and it was the matrix trailer that made me aware of it

Yeah thats one possibility.

well im not saying it hast to be in HL2... just saying.. do you think it makes games better? (some games) like if they just had violins playing.. would that be cooler?

oh and thanks for those MP3s . GREAT stuff!

This is ironic, when I read this thread I also happened to be listening to "Dual of the Fates", you know, the "ahh" song in Star Wars Episode 1 thats played during the fight with Darth Maul.

I like that kind of music in movies and games, but like everyone says it just isn't very Half-Life'ish.

Techno music?! I disabled it because techno doesn't "fit" HL either. The "Ahhh" music like Joey said would be better than crappy 500bpm cheeseball house or whatever.

According to what we've heard in HL2, I think the music fits perfectly.

i could just see a HL2 cutscene (which wont happen but a mod would be sweet with cutscenese)

and it turns out the g-man is the guy behind all the destruction and gordon starts chasing him (somewhere i dont know) and EBLA is playing in the background god... that'd be cool!

Like it or not, but Half-Life 2 is not a serious game. (HL1 was not, and from what we see in the vids, HL2 is not either). I'm not saying it's entirely goofy like NOLF 2 or something, but it has a lot of humor in it. Unless it has emotinal momments (i.e. Alyx gets killed or something), classical music will not work at all.

well geez it doesnt have to be in HL2 THE GAME.

Mods might be cool with it!

Actually i think they should have a chilling music u know the sort of music that u expect something to jump out at u ( ie headcraps :)) but well it depends on the situation doesnt it, if your in a battle with a boss then have the "huge monster argh" music. And say your in the city for the first time have techno music etc...

typos are when the keys are right next to each other, this was probably intentional, but funny nonetheless. :D

haa haaa no.

Imagin the ahh music when like fighting a huge boss in the rain at night in the city... ahhhh mannnn

Or for like a DOD in the rain, dark, matrix style shooting! hahaha yeahhh

Ya that would be sweet, I still think that it won't be included in the game though, but like you said it would be cool in mods.

Personally I'm no fan at all of techno. It seems to work well in the HL games, but I much prefered playing HL1 with music turned off (much more atmospheric too). In terms of music I'm much more interested in art music*. I'm a composer myself and I write a lot of orchestral music, and quite a bit of choral music too. I think these sorts of music could be made to work with HL, but I think that would seem a bit "try hard" - it would become too obvious that they wanted the game to feel like a movie, and you'd lose some of the immersion. Again, I think you get a better experience with the music off.

On the other hand, nothing like a bit of Penderecki to send a chill down your spine just before you get scared half to death by the thing that just jumped out of the shadows :)

*(Art music is what the common folk would call classical music :cheese: Where they are wrong is that "classical" only refers to one very specific period of music, where the term "art music" refers to traditional music (such as orchestral or choral - that's choir, not the sea creature) from back in the days of gregorian chant, right through to today's modern art music composers).

fcuk yeah! the title screen to hitman two owns all

edit: oh yeah, and myst 3 soundtrack is awesome too

lol the beginning music to Hitman 2 was what made me buy it! im serious.. I thought thered be more of that music but... no :( damn lol

there was also some "ahh" music in Black and White. It fit the mood fine i'd say!

you dragged up an 11-month-old topic?

All I know about HL2's music is that they kind of throw in some theme of music that fits what you're doing or where you are, and it changes and blends all the time to set the mood right.

What Program Did they use to make HL2's Music?
I don't know what program was actually used, but you could do music like that heard in the various E3 videos pretty easily in a program like Reason 2.5 (which I strongly reccommend for making that kind of music). Like any program though, the quality of music you can make will be dependant on how good\practiced you are at using the program, and how much musical ability\practice you have.

The music is perfectly okay the way it is now, I don't think choirs would fit into HL's universe.

Logic there is very true, I think Kelly Bailey might have used Reason, it is an absolutely fantastic program.
