Alyx's mother was of Asian origin. She's half-black.

nope, when hes hit once, he loses all his bonuses if he has both mushroom and flower he loses both. if hes has nothing and hes hit he jumps and dies

But in that case, you can't get a fire flower like Gordon-Shepherd says. When you're regular Mario you only get Magic Mushrooms, Stars and coins. In SMB, anyway.

I know this thread is a little old now but I'd just like to add my two cents.

Alyx's father is not entirely black; take a look at Eli and compare him to an actually black-pigmented man:

There ya go! See the difference?

Now about Azian: she looks sort of like a cross between Oriental (yes that's right, Oriental, not "Asian") and Spanish. I'm assuming she's partially Pinay.

Add the two and you come up with Alyx.

Also, I'd just like to comment that I always thought she sort of looked like a combination of Jamil Mullen (the person whom Alyx was modeled after) and Merle Dandridge (the person who supplied the voice of Alyx).
