Alyx just doesnt work

ok so i was thinking, so many people are talking about Alyx and Gordons love and all this and how they should fall in love or w/e. I dont know if any one else has realized this, though im sure they have, that this totaly would NOT WORK EVER! The whole thing about half-life is that it puts YOU in the role of gordon freeman. By making gordon and alyx fall in love or w/e would be the stupidest thing ever, that would totaly ruin what half life is. The player makes every decision for gordon, so alyx and gordon would not work. ALot of people probably hate alyx, so making her and gordon a pair would take the feel out of what half life is and could never work

HL2 isn't an RPG so you're wrong... you do not make decisions for Gordon. Rather other characters and events around you do.

and thrasher wouldnt it feel completely stupid to suddenly be thrus into a relationship with alyx after never saying two words to her, and (for some poeple) going through the whole game hating her?

Hmmm, we should think about this. I would say that Alyx is round about 19 or 20 years old, and Gordon is what? 40? The age difference is insurmountable. Really disgusting....

I'd say that Valve was a long way behind Remedy when it comes to raw emotion and 'caring' about characters (Max Payne, anyone?).

You do get attached to some of the characters in Half Life 2, but because you know they're rarely going to die, you don't feel as attached as you could. There were plenty of times in Half Life 2 where I let Alyx and Barney take the damage for me, because I knew it would be really difficult for them to get killed.

The value of human life worked a lot better in Half Life 1 for me, but I can't really explain why.

I dislike Alyx. I preferred it when HL didn't try and pass for a movie. Everyone loved the clone characters in HL1....."Memories"

Nah, not that Sparta - I was thinking more on the lines when the scientist is being chased down by the grunts and if you weren't quick enough he got killed and you couldn't progress...the 'failure to save a human life' or whatever it said message tugged my heart a wee bit.

You could interpret that as guilt if you wanted to. Alyx stated earlier that Gordon didn't have to come all the way up the Citadel to rescue her father. If Gordon were to die, she would feel that it was her fault, since for most of the game she was getting Gordon to help her with the rescue instead of leading the Resistance.
