Okay, of course most people who are outside the US know about the dominant national parties, the Republicans and the Democrats.

While these two parties also hold a majority of seats outside of national politics on a lower level, the playing field is a lot more level and other groups can come into play much easier. Third parties may rarely win national seats but VERY often they take more local seats, sometimes even state seats (less often though) A lot of people outside the US don't realize the 2 party domination isn't as strong on a local level as it is on a national level.

Sometimes third parties will fund, support, etc a candidate under the banner of one of the 2 dominant parties for national election. For instance, sometimes the Socialists have a few in national office under the Democratic Party, the Libertarians a few in office under the Republican Party AND Democratic Party, etc.

I'd like to now make a thread compiling every US party that can be found. Some of these don't even operate on a national level yet as far as elections go.

Hehe, for once a thread not involving debate between us members, but fitting politics!

There are some others I found too, but I saw no evidence of them actually -doing- anything besides existing so I didn't list them. All of these are active. Post more if you know of them or any that are active in your area.

Here we go!

Republican Party
Democrat Party
Libertarian Party
Corporatist Party
Socialist Party
Communist Party
Green Party
Reform Party
Reform Split Party (Party split in two after nearly winning the 1992 Presidency)
America First Party
Independent Party
Constitution Party
Falange Party
Fascist Party
Labor Party
Light Party
Nazi Party
Knights Party
Nazi Green Party
Marijuana Party
Veterans Party

The Federalists haven't been around since 1800...

This is currently active parties.

Unless you mean there is a group reviving it under that name, if so post it.

I already saw the page of the nazi-party... frightening.

There is a Nazi Green party too, I saw that and looked at their page and it made me laugh. A viscious hate group. But they are caring and care about the environment.

It's just weird. Also that school shooter was a member of their party apparantly.

edit: Perhaps we could add Canada to this list in this thread and have a list, then have a European thread broken down by country also listing parties. Then have the threads stickied. That would be very useful because sometimes when people talk about UK politics, Swedish politics, etc etc I have no idea what the hell is going on :p

Good idea, but someone from each country would have to translate the contents/programs of each party. Maybe I can do that for GER.

Donner Party?
I may seem to be being an ass, but I'm asking a serious question; are you including all the fake parties that some arses are going to have put on their ballads?

another question, why are you donig this again? did I miss the reason? Or is it... just because?

haha good one.

But I'm putting all parties that are alive today and active. Doing so because a lot of people outside the US or in the US who are new to getting involved in politics don't know a lot about third party activity on a local level. I'm interested in seeing what some folks have going on in their area, I think for instance the south has a few seccesion parties around and such.

Here in Sweden we got seven parties in the parliament. From left to right

The Left Party - Socialists/Communists
The Social Democratic Party
The Green party
The Centrist Agricultural Party
The Christian Democratic Party - Liberals
The People's Party - Liberals
The Moderates - Liberal with some conservative views

We also got some minor parties that hasn't reached the 4% limit, such as the feminists and the nationalists.

If you guys can get links to these for the party HQ's it'd be good too, so we can know what the party is about when it's mentioned in debate or news articles.

Can a mod rename the thread to Political Parties (or something to that effect) and sticky this thread, please? This would be very useful

Are you guys in favor of having this thread stickied? :[. I can tell what's going to happen as it gets pushed down into the bottom of the forum and lost so that's why I just bumped it with this question :p. But if a lot of people really don't want it stickied and it's just me it can just go away. lol.
