Ok, I don't really have a religion, I stopped going to church a while ago. So don't flame me to death because I don't know anything about any of them, BUT, what do all you people think about religion? What do you like, what don't you like, what do you think it can do to the world, things like that? Just wondering, I want to see what you all honestly think deep down.

They're a waste of time.

Be a good/nice person and have fun while you can, if there's some badass afterlife that's cool. I'll get there when I get there. If not, oh well.

oh no, another religious thread. I think were gonna start a holy war..

religion? Just do good in life and it will come back to you. This single statement has been morphed into what we call religion..

sometimes I want the existence of a good to be real so we can blame him of all our troubles

person: dam you god,why you not make us inmune to hunger so the people stop suffering?
god:hmp....dam you weaks humans, why not just shut up *trows fireball killing person*
*everyone give a sad stare at god*
god: ?...well what are you looking at? should you all be worshiping me? c'mon entertaintme make some wars or porn videos or something...

It's dangerous nonsense. Agressive meme. Virus of mind.

Yep.

It's a highly successful set of self-replicating memes, nothing more than a software virus whose only goal is to reproduce itself in the minds of people.

Religion arose naturally, it subsists naturally, and it will (hopefully) die naturally.

sometimes I think that some religions where made by some ancient philosophers to keep humanity under control

after all it seem to be point of it

Thats precisely it. It came about because people needed answers to questions that couldnt be answered. People needed a guide for their lives, and answers for their questions. Religion is what came of it.

I believe it helped in the early days. But today, I think it does more harm than good, because we are at the point where morality already has a hold, our questions are being answered by science, but we are still following old doctrine that only serves to limit our advancement as a civilized species.

Scientology will be the next Christianity... no joke. In a couple of hundred years people will forget Scientology's roots just like all other religions and they'll say it's the truth for about a thousand years. I LAUGH, HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm the kind of athiest (in fact I think most modern athiests are like this) who rejects supernaturalism completely and goes for pure materialism. Also, No "lol that must be so depressing kind of thing" because I'm happier than I ever was when I religious kthxbai.

Materialism = numbers 3 and 4 in Aristotle's 4 sources of happiness.

I believe in god, but I sure as hell don't believe in religion... i mean take for example, one of the laws in Catholicism is that TAKING DRUGS IS EVIL. But alcohol is OK. That is so BLATANTLY culturally biased - NOT SPIRITUALLY BIASED. Utter bullshit... if one drug's evil then they all are. That and the fact that Jesus is a rip off of the egyptian god Horus.

Religion is worse than Hitler.

There, I said it.

There, I said it.

Stalin was worse than Hitler, he killed 8-30 million people as opposed to Hitler's 6 million. But no-one cares about that....

Fine.

Religion is worse than Stalin multiplied by Hitler.

Jesus is a rip off of Mithra. Absolutely everything that was written about Jesus was written about Mithra a thousand years earlier. EVERYTHING.

Religion is a terrible thing. It deludes people into believing obvious falsities. They go along with it like it's the absolute, incontrovertable truth of the universe. I have a friend who's unfortunately so far gone he can't be helped. What's worse, since he knows I'm an atheist he always brings up the subject matter. I think he's trying to save my soul or some bullshit. Isn't it weird how most atheists (some are 'militant,' sure, but majority) don't bring it up at all, but religious folks are always breathing down your neck about it?

You gotta respect their ideas tho, because they think they're as right as you think you are. We could all be wrong, maybe we're all living inside an omniscient pile of radioactive waste that's DEAD and HATES us.

let it beeee..f

I am a member of the LDS Church (Mormon) which makes me a Christian. However, many Christians do not believe that Mormons are Christians because we have many different beliefs. Our religion is founded on the Book of Mormon and also the Bible.

I think the freedom of religion and belief should be granted to everyone, so long as it does no harm to others. This can be applied to both sides of the spectrum. Also, if it's kept within unreasonable limits and high tolerances for other beliefs.

I also believe religion can be used for extremely evil purposes when twisted. We see many examples of this throughout History. But also that there is one true religion, that will bring happiness, peace and progress for everyone.

Sorry but Mormonism is one of most ridiculous religions this time, obviously fake. Christian Native Americans? Give me a break. It should be called Moronism.

Please show some respect. Before you claim something to be false, actually make an honest effort to understand something, and keep an open mind.

I'd rather not hear anyone's ideas about it and just go on with my life. Really, is there ANY reason to question someone's religious affiliation other than to start an argument? I mean you're probably not going to INTEND to start an argument with it, but that's where it's gonna go.

Every.

Single.

Time.

Please show some respect.

Why should someone show respect for an idea that seems utterly stupid to them? Much like how many religious folks don't respect Atheists. It's a two way street. So kindly get stuffed with the show some respect attitude.

NO! You don't have to respect belief. That's ridiculous. There is, however, a good case for respecting people, and no they aren't one and the same. :)

And I really don't buy the whole "anything is possible, we don't know anything for certain, [insert hypothetical reality here]" argument. We do know things for as close to certain as makes no rational difference. Those things are based on evidence.

Like how athiests are respected? Like how creationists make it out like athiests are hitler clones?

BTW for me, I have nothing against mormanism in particular. It falls in the same boat as all the others.

There are certain people on these forum that mark themselves as tolerant but apparently their tolerance doesn't apply to religious people.

Kind of reminds me of the situation of smugglers in Bioshock.

Thankfully most don't give a damn.

I think you're confusing tolerance of people with tolerance of belief. It's amazing how many people just don't see the difference.

Nobody (well at least not me) is advocating intolerance of religious people. It's respecting religious belief that we're intolerant of.

It's a tired analogy, but it bears repeating: you can (and should) be tolerant of communists, as people, and respect their right to believe, but not be tolerant of communism.

See the difference?

Sorry, but respect is earned, not given based on someone's beliefs or convictions. I won't disrespect you or your religion, but I'm not about to justify it just because I'm afraid of stepping on any toes.

I know it might sound a little crass, but I honestly didn't mean any offense by the above. And I'm not targetting you in particular or Mormonism either, the whole "respect for religion" thing just bothers me to no end.

Also, on the topic of tolerance for religion: THEM FIRST.

Infidels, much? :P

Invisible barrier in the minds.

i refuse to tolerate and respect christian people...why? Because they stand for shit like this:

"entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not know, thou, nor thy fathers; ... But thou shalt surely KILL HIM; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to DEATH, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt STONE HIM with stones, that he DIE." Dt.13:6-10

"He that beliveth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is CONDEMNED already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" Jn 3:18

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be PUT TO DEATH; their blood shall be upon them." Lev. 20:13

"He that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely PUT TO DEATH." Exodus 21:15

Everytime i go to school i have to see these delusional ****s with their damn cross around their neck standing and promoting this shit and condeming ME right infront of my face. According to school rules you are not allowed to wear anything offensive or promotive of hate speech...which is exacly what the Christian cross stands for...so why is it allowed?

Besides, if you need morals from a book...then you are an immoral retard. Morals are common sense, people can have morals without a book, if you seriously need a BOOK to tell you your morals then you are just insane.

I let the question be a question, i dont need an answer, i dont need to know why we exist or how it happend, i just dont know. Im not gona make up an answer (god) for it and live in a lie, i will live in truth that i simply DONT KNOW why everything is.

Stalin was worse than Hitler, he killed 8-30 million people as opposed to Hitler's 6 million. But no-one cares about that....

Hitler was responsible for a lot more than 6 million deaths... 6 million were just the jews and they belive it is more now too. Then all the rest, either way, LOT died in WWII.

But anyway, yea, religion not for me. I honestly think about it so little I dont even know what I am! Need to find out what I am lol.
