Apeture Science Handheld Portal Device = Adrian Shepard?

I guess what I am holding is not the spirit of Shepard.
But Valve uses "H"andheld in stead of portable, sounds tricky.

It might just be an easter egg :| just because its a portal gun, or Valve hates Shephard fans.

Or maybe because Gordan Freeman is similar to Gman this will mean that you play adrian shepard who had a portal gun in OpForce.

People hold an irrational grudge against Shephard even though he's pretty much identical to Freeman for all intents and purposes.

Why? I don't know. Ask God, because I have yet to find a decent rationale on this plane of existence.

Shephard is a faceless marine.

Freeman survived because of his HEV.
Why did Shephard survive? Because he is Jesus incarnate?

Look, the player model is going bald, for some reason I dont think its shepard....

Strangely I hope it's shepard. For starters it would put an end to all those shepard theory threads D: and finally tie the knot.

I get the vague notion that it's just an easter egg.. or maybe that's the tie in to the HL universe that Portal has - the G-Man sells Shepard to the company that made the Portal technology as a tester.

I've watched the trailer quite a few times now, and it doesn't look like the PC is going bald. It looks more like a buzzcut, TBH. And Shephard was a marine, after all.

um, dude has a baldspot

Would be quite a coincidence if it had nothing to do with Shepard, humm...

Hey, I'd gladly accept that the Portal guy was Shephard if this was his appearance that Valve said they'd get around to. Explanations be damned, call this guy Shephard to appease fans and let him never set foot in the Half-Life universe again.

Honestly, I don't think I'd like portal to be in the hl universe. It's a franchise VALVe should expand from.

Valve made the character in portal called Shepard so as to piss off you Adrian fans.

I don't think Shephard should just be left to rot. I think he should come back, in one of two ways.

1. The G-Man sends him to recover Gordon.
2. He's the dude in Portal.

Please someone who hates Adrian Shepard tell me why they hate him.

I don't see what's wrong with Shepard. Would be great if he was featured in this.

I don't love nor hate Shepard(and I don't see how anyone can do either, considering that he is a "blank" character with no personality just like Freeman. You don't even see his face, unlike Freeman.), but I'd like to at least see his plot thread resolved for the sake of completion.

Ironically, I don't have a problem with Shephard himself. I didn't mind playing as him. But now it is time to move on, and for new characters to be introduced - Shephard got his resolution. But no, the Shephard 'fanbase' hammer their fists on the table demanding his return. What difference would it make? What is quite so special about Shephard? It has come to the point that if Valve do bring him back, it is just for the pure sake of it. Why bring him back. He's pretty much just a name. Don't tell me Gordon is just a name as well, because he's a little more fleshed out.

Keep him in the past. Time for someone new. He is not pivotal to the story and never will be. The end.

Yes, I don't know why people actually want Shephard while they have never even seen his face.

I don't know why people want Gordon when they have never heard his voice.

How you can see his plot thread is resolved as beyond me. If you had swapped Gordon in his place, you'd be screaming about how there's no resolution. Hell, just look at the endings for HL1 and HL2. Do either of these give you the feeling of a complete ending? Full disclosure? Or do they leave you wanting to know more?

Welcome to the same boat as Shephard "fans". But from everything I've read from your posts regarding this matter so far, it appears that your main issue is with Gearbox and its narrative treatment of the Half-Life universe. That's understandable. But now Gearbox is out of the picture and it's all under the direct control of Valve, who assumedly have a far greater understanding of their creation and the direction it's headed. If they implement Shephard, wouldn't it be fair to think they'd have a practical reason for doing so and would be able to pull it off well? Forget keeping characters in the past. That same argument could have easily kept Eli, Kleiner, and Barney out of the sequel.

agreed.

Correct. :p

But I feel Shephard got closure. The Gman preserved him, and decided to keep him there until he was needed. Adrian has no connection to anyone - Earth is ruined, and he's got no mistakes to resolve. Unlike Gordon, who's to blame for the state the Earth is. (Well, not completely, but you know.) I'd just rather see someone new.

I don't know why people want Gordon when they have never heard his voice.

At least I hear Alyx, Barney and scientists keep on saying "Gordon", "Gordon". As for Shephard, his name is called probably just when he is riding the carrier at the very beginning and the final confrontation. I didn't say Adrian should not re-appear. I am just stating that he is not so highly demanded.

If Valve bring Shepherd back, I'm confident they'll do it well.
If not, it'll likely be because doing it well wasn't possible.

Simple as that.
