Lets see, the game looks like its already been rated and reviewed by many magazines.

Yet the RC was only sent off 8 days ago.

Something really deep down tells me that Valve is just going to pop up copies of the game on shop shelves and just not tell us. I know this sounds worthless but thats how I feel right now.

Of course it wouldn't be a bad thing eh?

Thoughts?

I think that would be a bad strategy, announcing gold will be a good way to let the people [who live in caves] that havent heard about HL2 know about it and lots of people aren't dedicated as us to keep up with all the news. Announcing gold will caus lots of advertising and interest.

I believe its getting close, though, final few days..weeks...

No they would not do that. Besides the average game is tested 72 hours before RC accept/reject. Thats 9 buisness days if testing 8hours/day.

So if your right then we could see an announcement in the next 2 days or so?

If the first RC was accepted, possibly. This is a rarity with video games though.

Hey Rossell, i'm thinking the same as you. I have a weird feeling Half-life2 will just appear without notice. Maybe thats what the big surprise is?

It would please us all but it's not like the people at Gaming stores as well as at VU would be able to keep something like that secret. It would be like:

"What you got in that Box there"
"A game which has nothing to do with Half Life 2"
(Nudge, Nudge...Wink, Wink)

theres no way this game will just pop up onto the shelves, you couldnt keep everyone quiet about it, the cd manufacturing people, the delivery people and all the people in retail. thats a rediculous thing to say, althought it is a nice dream. I agree with HunterSeeker.

You never know, they created the game they can do what the **** they want

The game is being tested 24h/7d as we confirmed hundred of times in the hundred of existing RC threads.

Edit: and Valve confirmed some time ago they are going to make Gold press announcement, like all the games on the planet.

You guys do have a point. Sorry, I just wasn't thinking about it in detail.

we might find out when it's released and the 'secret' in the pc gamer review - our guessing will finnally end on the 5th of october...

um if there have been 4 million copies manufactured someone in one of those factorys would have leaked that info. Theres no chance it will "just appear" lol

I'm thinking why don't more women want to sleep with me....

Then I realise it's because I spend half my day checking to see whether HL2 has gone gold!

Finally, another Red Dwarf fan in the house.
This is a recording. I'm afraid Rimmer is busy at the moment.
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Red Dwarf.

Why apologise?? Everyones just clutching at straws at present ... we just want some news or an annoucement of some sort!

This game has to have one of the most contorted and crazy developement cycles ever - nothing would surprise me at all!

Nothing we can do except hang tight and hope for the best :dozey:

Why would they do that? It makes no sense.

highly anticipated games don't just 'pop' onto shelves. they leave a wake of huge announcements and even more hype before they show up.

Well, when have Valve ever done anything the orthodox way?

Apparently, I am not thinking what you are thinking :rolling:

valve can be as quirky as they want, but its vivendi putting the game on shelves, and they have no soul or sense of quirkiness.

Releasing a game without announcing it is just stupid. I don't care how cool it would be for the fans to find out tomorrow morning their pre-load is unlocked, but it just won't happen, ever.

if we've learned anything from valve, is that they side with the traditional marketing approach in that they milk every announcement, and they've strategically staggered the press releases, to keep a sustained level of hype (i mean 200+ people browsing this sub-forum right now can't be wrong)

so i'd be suprized if they didn't announce it going gold, then all the magazine reviews will hit the shelves, then they'll probably have several press releases to all the major online gaming outlets, then when it hits the shelves, half the world will symotaniously cream out collective pants, and the world as we know it will fall apart.

hydro-electric foreman: where's the hell is everyone? why didn't anyone show up to work? *boom*
