You older Australian gamers are going to have to make sure and vote at every election.

FFS, YEAH because everyone know only unstable children play video games...

How about you do the same with all the other forms of entertainment as well. Ban all movies, TV shows and books that have even the slightest mature content. No you say? That's silly you say? Only as silly as thinking that video games have some magical brain washing properties, that all other forms of entertainment don't!

Lol funny Australians. Are the people ok with this? Or is it just their government thats wacko? Why is there no ****ing revolts? If this happened in Europe or USA/Canada there would be cars getting flipped and set on fire.

It has been a short amount of time.
I find that google turns up minimal results due.
Major news channels are bringing up celebrity deaths instead.

I would definitely set a car on fire. Flipping it would be too much work though.

That's a bit silly..

This country needs higher games ratings. Can you believe you can't buy that japanese game that simulates the rape of girls on trains? Very unfair for people like me.

Does anyone have contact with Australia?
An msn friend perhaps? I would love to have this news spread like wildfire.

Australians need to stand up to this ridiculous government censorship.

did you know that when GTA3 came out real grand theft autos plummeted? look it up, i'm sure the figures are there but the major media outlets wouldn't agree of course

Exactly what I was thinking.

An Aussie kid I know on msn seems to be able to access most sites.
Including the 15+ game selling ones.

They probably only passed the bill, nothing will get done about it for ages...

That said, its not a political issue over here - when anyone gets annoyed about it they just seem to label the whole movement as childish while they ban mature games.

I'm planning on running for Victorian Upper House in the next 8 years - just cause this sort of stuff annoys me and I think I'd do a good job.

So that pretty much blocks most Steam games.
and I wonder if Australia is a big enough market for game companies to make an uproar.

The censorship plan will be blocked through parliament.

Everyone is pissed off, anyway this isn't new news its old. everyone is complaining, like i said it wont get through.

How would that help? it's a federal plan.

I didn't realize Australia was wanting to return to a penal colony form of government.

It's only for small name internet providers. iiNet, (which I have) thankfully isn't adopting it.

The government just wants to make the internet a safe place for kids etc, but there going about it all wrong.

There proposed plan is to have 2 types of filter. 1 for kids and 1 for people that arnt a kid.

the kid one blocks porn and the one for everyone else blocks illegal websites such as child porn and other harmfull websites.

What everyone is complaining about is that, they have said who will decide whats illegal harmfull websites and whats not? they have a list but they wont share it. Plus they say the filter will slow down our net so everyones not happy about that either.

As i said, it wont get put in place

Wrong, optus is trialing it and i think telstra is too.

If the plan comes in, every isp would have to have it.

How many fifteen year olds have access to credit cards without having to ask their parents for it.

They're asking their parents to buy them a mature game.

They don't even fit!

good point. They can even be under 15 as long as their parents allow them to have it anyway, right? It's legal?

I know, but I know it'd be almost impossible to win a seat federally...

It's easy to win a federal seat. If your not a dickhead, you will win easy. Most polies today are dickheads so if your not one your pretty much already in the door.

True, but that's the thought for later down the track. I'd need 7.7% of votes within Victoria after preferences are re-allocated and shuffled to win a Senate seat.

is there no constitutional guarentee of free speech in australia or what? jebus this is stupid

I have abunch of friends and family who live in australia

one of my aussie friends *I don't want to revel her name*

they don't live under a brick like it would seem and they do care and do vote...
you have to understand that most of popluation of austraila live around the costal area's
it depends on the area you live in and how seriuosly they would take the law of mature content

She told me additionly info is that some these flash games that were involve were containing secert infomation relating to korea, the regim and other terriost related info....

It does sound bizzare and insane, but it is secerly talked about that austraila is one of the next targats for a terroist attack

one that could relating to rigging a car as a bomb or implanting a bomb inside...

reasons why austraila wants to tighten down on on game containt
