Australian Police try to defuse bomb collar around girl's neck

There are reports of a girl in an affluent Sydney suburb who has been fitted with a live collar bomb as part of what seems to be an extortion attempt. Emergency services were called to the Mosman home late on Wednesday (Australian time) and are continuing to assess the situation.

The 18-year-old girl has reportedly not moved for 6 hours, but is said to be calm. Specialists are with her and are assessing the device. They apparently are not sure whether it is live or not, but obviously they can’t take any risks. Police have not confirmed that it’s a collar bomb, saying merely that the girl can’t move away from it. But sources have told Australian media that the device is attached to the girl’s neck.
