Hi. I have maybe a stupid question. Is it possible to deactivate autosave? I have no choice to switch it off in the setting menu in game. But I thought it could be done by any patch or consol command? Thanks

I suggest you don't, if there are no autosaves when you die you have to restart the whole game Or manually load your last game.

I can't stand the autosaves myself...it jumps at those areas sometimes, and I end up with loads of saves I didn't make.

I usually save it at a safe area anyway so...

Yes I agree it is sometimes desirous to no-op autosave. It clobbers other saves which you have deliberately saved. If operating under "no autosave", when the "save" cache is full, it should replace the oldest save. Does this make sense?

I prefer autosave on but it is annoying sometimes, like once I kept spawning in a pack of antlions with very little health. And due to a glitch I wasn't able to load any other game (in Substance not HL2 normal)

It's two autosave slots only.

Perhaps I tried to add all combinations: sv_autosave 0, sv_autosave "0", sv_autosave 1, sv_autosave "1". But none of these combinations was effective.
So, do you know something else?

Delete autosaves regularly.

Tried that Shens. Didn't work. Should I have put parentheses around the 0? I did and perhaps this is my problem? Or should one change config file before commencing the game in the first instance?

I have also tried sv_autosave 0 and the game is STILL autosaving all the time
