I mentioned this in the "Performance Revealed" thread, but it wasn't noticed much, and in my own humble opinion, I think it deserves to be.

Doesn't anyone see a correlation between Anandtech releasing their HL2 benchmark numbers tomorrow and Steam coming out tomorrow? I'm making a somewhat educated guess that we'll see the HL2 benchmark available over steam as soon as we all setup our accounts!

I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the reason for the delay; That they're not just releasing Steam. That would also kind of explain Anandtech's preview of tomorrow's article, if they were originally planning on releasing it today and then had to push it to tomorrow when Steam got delayed. They decided to give their readers a taste of what they should have gotten today in it's entirety.

I have a feeling that this theory would explain a lot of things we've seen happening. If I'm right, we should see a whole plethora of sites posting their benchmarking numbers tomorrow!

:cheese:

.... and if the benchmarking tool is out, then the release of HL2 can't be too far away

See for yourself.

It's really not all that funny, that's just when the Epoch that their time system is based on starts. Java uses Jan 1, 1970 GMT for the start of their time system and so if the system reporting the time is down then it'll be reported as a 0 offset and thus show that time.

Now don't crap in my thread!

hehe

EDIT: You too Hunter...although that is pretty damn funny! :cheese:

I certinaly ope so... this would be the perfect time for the benchmark

and they are making an exception for the number 1337

I'd rather have the remaining videos or a gold date rather than the benchmark.

Didn't that begin in the early 80's??

Late 60's era. Here is a pretty good article on the origins...

Hey hunter! you must visit the Soldner forum, eh? That badger joke was funny as hell.

No I think it started in the 60's, as a form of information sharing for the military, then was droped. The universities and such started using it in the late 70's or early 80's.

So, the internet was kinda public from 70-03?Wow. I thought the internet was made around 1989

So as I understand it the benchmark will be released only to the press on the 30th? What's the point if we can't use it for ourselves?

The press already have it.

ADDED: They've said that they are going to post their own results on Friday.

Oh, so the 30th is for the public? I'm confused.

Yes. We get the Benchmark on the 30th. NOt that we'll use it because most of us will know how good Half-Life 2 runs on our machines.

Hmmm...so I gather that its going to be released standalone as well as a built into the game benchmark?
