I am dismayed to find no other threads about this with a search. I hope I'm not the only one with this problem.

After I got to the second chapter of Episode 2, the game's physics went retarded on me. Basically stuff floats around erratically with no friction when touched, coming to sudden stops. Most stuff goes through the floor to some degree (some of it disappearing out of the map), and using physics objects to kill enemies doesn't work, as objects go through them as well.

I tried starting a new game, hoping it was just a random occurrence, but this time it started happening again in the middle of the first chapter! That's when I took a video and I'm attaching it so you can see what I mean.

I don't expect anyone to really have a solution to this, as it seems like an engine problem, but I just wanted to put it out there! Episode 2 is unplayable at this point!

Boingy Boingy Boingy!

I think the best advice would be to delete the cache and redownload it, looks like the maps have corrupted slightly during decoding.

I didn't have that problem and from the looks of it neither did the majority of us. Hope it gets sorted fella.

Yeah, I thought about deleting the content and reinstalling after making this thread. Thanks for the advice.

I'm currently reinstalling and I'll report my findings back here!

Yeah, I got this error about 2-3 times while playing. I tried disconnecting via the console and reloading my game, but in the end the only solution I found was to quit the game and restart it. I suppose it was a rather big glitch being certain areas were impassable without proper physics.

Well, I didn't have any problems either. But then, who wouldn't want to ride in a minecar that doubles as a bouncy castle, eh?

Well, I've deleted and re-downloaded Episode 2 content twice now to no avail. After a certain period of time, shit starts bouncing around and falling through the floors. I also played Episode 1 for a while to see if it was some sort of engine-wide issue. But no, everything works fine in that game! I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

EDIT: I've now contacted Valve through the Steam "Ask A Question" form

That happened to me, too.

It happened some time after I enabled cl_ragdoll_collide to 1.

But really the easiest solution is to just restart the game. If cl_ragdoll_collide is back to 0 then you're good.

its cl_ragdoll_Collige. IDK why, but it doesn't work in ep 2. there was a thread about it over on steampowoered, ill try to find it. Just keep it off, and youll be ok.

EDIT: here it is! http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=609813

Wow, quite the revelation! I do indeed keep ragdoll collide on, so as much as I hate clipping bodies, I must do what must be done. Thanks a lot! :E

It's odd though. It doesn't happen immediately after enabling ragdoll collide. It just starts out of nowhere. There's probably some triggering event that leads to the collapse of the entire physics engine. lol

Only happened to me once in portal. During the advanced challenges.

I dont think the command works until you reload the level or load a new one up, so you dont start having the problem until your next load.
