Hi. Like a lot of people, I an dying to lose my life to Half Life. However, I currently have no internet set up. Is there any way to get round this? I can use another computer but I realise this may not be any use.

No you cannot install it without an internet connection, but what you can do is validate on another computer that has internet then go back to your computer and run the game in offline mode.

No. The retail box clearly states that an internet connection is required. There are no work-arounds. Repeat, you must have an internet connection on the same computer (or hard disk) you install to.

Don't listen to omni, you do not, just validate on another comp with an internet connection go back home and play it in offline mode.

use one of those AOL trial cds to connect to the internet for just the validation. Or use the computer that you are useing right now ROTF. Or you could join the 21st century and get the internet.

sorry for the double post but can you validate your copy on a piss poor computer then install it on to your good computer that for one reason or another does not have the internet and you wont have to have steam revalidate it again on the good computer without the internet.

Take a Trip and look at the DVD/CD's thats about as close as you'r going to get.

If he validates on another comp wont he have to backup game files onto a CD's or something?

Ok thats what i thought. thats ok, All you have to do is go to Target or something and get a AOL trial cd. take your computer and plug your computer into a phone jack with a normal phone wire. Install AOL and get the internet working. Boot up steam validate HL2 get it working and ever thing then uninstall AOL then you will be able to play HL2 offline. Now i have never done this but it makes a lot of sense and i would be surprised if it does not work.

How in the hell could you validate it on another computer? You people sicken me. You need to validate it on the computer that you are going to play it on. Oh, and it's easier to use a pay as you go dial up number than installing AOL which will probably rape your computer.

Yeah, if you validated on a completely different computer, then how would the Steam installation on your original computer know without some sort of iffy file transfer?

Maybe you can use a friends internet connection, but on your computer? Like, you could take your computer to a friend's house, connect it up to a phone line, get your friend to do all the settings in IE on your computer for his/her internet account and provider, and whatnot, connect, validate HL2, disconnect, allow your friend to erase his connection details, then take your computer home and play HL2...

You can install and just find an offline crack from a friend or somethin. That's what I would do. Not illegal, I'd have a receipt, I paid for it.

But you cant install at all w/o an internet connection AFAIK, so you couldn't even do that.

Thanks for all your help folks. I've bought it, and it's currently installing while I've nipped round to the internet cafe to download what I hope will be suitable cracks (from megagames.com). Here's hoping...
BTW, the reason I can't get on the net is 'cos I've just moved house and have no phone line yet. Believe me, I will be connected as soon as poss. Being without broadband is like having one of my geek legs cut off. I posted all my other threads by mobile phone (not fun). Bye for now. Will post results for other would-be gamers with no internet (though I'm probably the only one).

It's what I would do too, but it is illegal. Read the EULA.

firstly, there are NO work arounds for this, all your probably doing is d/l a virus. secondly whatever your d/l is illegal, and therefore shouldn't work anyways... so stop d/l and think about it next time before you d/l warez.

There is a work around, no I won't give it to you, yes you are most likely going to download a virus. And warez doesn't do any harm if you have actually bought the game.

Hi there, I have installed HL2 and when trying to play in the offline mode, get message, steam server busy....try again later????
I have no internet connection at this time, when playing off line.....
