i haven't played half life 1, so maybe i missed something. i know that the guy in the suit is the same one that put me in the train.. but what was all the time stopping and who is he???

We don't know who he his, nor his real name, but he's called G-man, as in "Goverment-man", but I'm sure he's not from the goverment. There're many theories about him, but the most common one is that he's from some sort of alien federation, whose enemy is the combine.

There are alot of facts that explain the story, and they are in the game. Go look, it will answer those questions you are asking. Either that, or search the forums.

Actually, i'll get you a link to the fragfiles story overview thingy, you'll like it.

no. but if you cant play a game hl1 because of the graphics, wait for black mesa source. it is a mod that will implement the source engine into hl1. basically you got hl1 with hl2 graphics and physics

Hmm, so what's the difference between that and HL1 source? I've had that since I got the collector's edition of HL2 but I haven't played it, and was wondering what it was like.....to be honest I've played HL1 to death, completed it maybe 4 times.

No, get Half Life Source, if you played it you know it looks amazing compared to the origional Half Life.

To answer some small questions, Dr. Breen controls the combines... and you definatly need to play HL1 in order to understand it..

I don't understand why people get caught up in graphics so much, its not like the value of that game depreciates over time, we liked it for its revolutions in a stale industry.

Example: People don't stop appreciating painted arts when computer generated art started coming around.

But bear in mind that there are still people who disagree with almost everything that guy has concluded (eg, me). Just read whatever you want into the story, as it makes sense to you. Regardless of whether someone has made a website to back up their theories, there arestill many things which are very much open to question.

Breen doesn't control the combine at all.

My own uniformed theory is this - the G-man was part of the operation that had responsibility for Black Mesa, and was responsibile for implementation of the order to kill the scientists, all of the alien invaders, and then ultimately, destroy Black Mesa itself.

Somewhere along the way, the G-man meets the aliens, and realises he is on the wrong team. Whether this is all of them, some of them, or just one group is hard to know. It then appears that he becomes something of a 'fixer' of problems. WIth his new contacts of an alien nature - the G-Man is able to now manipulate time, and either resurect or move Gordan Freeman from wherever he was to where the combine is causing havoc. It looks as though, someone who the G-man works for, considered that Dr Breen and his combine presence at that location had to go, and the Dr Freeman would be a real good person to fubar that operation. Once the job is done, Freeman is put back on ice - wherever that is. A bit disconcerting really. Didn't even get to bonk Alyx once......

But thats as much as I can put together, completely uninformed of course. But there is probably a 'devs' story out there somewhere which explains everything.

OK, yes the combine are an alein race that every race they take over they implant the domanant species of the planet with their tech. and this becomes their new army. you can go on for hours explaining who this is and who did what but there DEFINITLY IS A STORY . its just not too apparent ,and yeah you should play halflife1 just to know what Kliener and Eli talk about.
