I have tried to create a server to play with friends but nothing I do seems to make my server available to others. It keeps running as a Lan. I have the console active and have tried manually inputting sv_lan 0 but doesn't seem to work..any suggestions?

I tried that too with no luck..I even downloaded the dedicated server and ran it and it says internet but only shows up in LAN tab...

I am not running a router, windows firewall is off, Zonelab has all instances of half life 2 and steam allowed. I have even tried turning off the firewall entirely..

This is getting really irritating

try setting the port when you start a dedicated server to 1 whatever the default number is (i forget the exact number).

I will try that...I paid more attention this time when the server started and it says couldn't exec listenserver.cfg. I even reinstalled the game and still no go ATM..

I have reinstalled half life 2..deleted the core directories...disabled all startup programs including the firewall..I am not behind a router..

have tried the sv_lan 1... run server..type sv_lan 0 trick..no go

have tried creating a listenserver.cfg file with the following:

net_start
sv_lan 0
maxplayers 2

still didn't work

tried exec listenserver.cfg
map (map name)
restart

I have spent over 10 hours the past 2 nights trying to solve this problem, scouring many webpages trying all the solutions and I am still unable to create a simple listen server, it always goes to a lan server. Any one have a number for tech support that I can call??
