I am not able to pre-load HL2. The first day it was available I pre-loaded what was available. Then when the 2nd phase was made available it just sat at 52% and wouldn't dl the content. Now I hear there's a 3rd phase and I still can't dl the content. I'm stuck at 42% and it won't go anything past that. Any ideas?

Ok now I hit pause on the pre-load to see what happens. When I hit the continue button a window pops up that says "verifying steam files" then it dissapears. Then I click continue again and the same thing happens. Wow, any suggestions?

try downloading windows net 1.1 (must have it). If it still doesn't work, leave it on for one night, maybe you are impatient. and if that doesn't work, you have always fall back on buying the game retail.

lolllool steam technical support...oh rofl i crack me up..

Yep, last time I wrote to steam techsupport, it took them 2 months to replay, by which time I fixed the problem myself.

Yeah I'm probably going to buy the retail version anyways, I'm just wondering why it doesn't work just in case.

It's almost as if they have a huge backlog because a 100,000 people use Steam or something.

Anyway, I had the problem with the second preload, but when I closed Steam and restarted, it just resumed. Some people have said that pausing the preload then resuming fixes it.

If you're going to buy it retail, don't even preload it dumbass. You're just slowing it down for legitimate pre-loaders.

slowing it down for legitimate users? It's not as if they'll be able to play it sooner if they download it quicker.

how about a constructive reply ??

Whilst steam is running, delete your clientregistry.blob file from the steam folder - Don't remove it from the recycle bin though. If you monitor your steam activity whilst you do this, you'll see that your preload status returns to '0'

With Steam still running - Go to the recycle bin and restore the clientregistry.blob file - Steam will automatically detect the file again. Pause and restart the pre-load and it should continue from where it stopped last. I had the same problem and someone in the Steam user forums gave me this tip - it works!

Hope this helps.
