mmm.... naah, I still don't see where you're coming from.

I think you're just reaching for air. There's absolutly NO resemblance at all. They have different amounts of legs too!

Yeah seriously. They're not even the same colour.

I thought the combine striders was based on that thing of W.o.t.W.

Maybe... I just don't see it. If it had to be resemble something from the HL universe, it would probably be a snark. But that's stretching it.

I thought the combine striders was based on that thing of W.o.t.W.

Where the hell did you get that idea? Are you on drugs?

i think what hes trying to get at is that it resembles it and to be completely fair im sure that valve based the strider some what on the war or the worlds tripods because other then them being actual creatures and not piloted, they are pretty much the same thing, just a different look to them. The "tripods" have had several different looks to them and i mean a lot! the only thing other then the striders not being piloted is that they dont have tentacles or long flexible arm like limbs, where as the "tripods" do. The strider is very obviously and loosely based and H.G. Wells war of the worlds alien "tripods" or the basic concept.

Yes, yes, we knew, we were just making fun at his expense, because this has been suggested so many times.

Why don't you say "yes"? it's easier, it's simple...... i'm a totally newbie on these kind of stuff, so i didn't have to know it; if you knew about it, just don't post, or say that it has been suggested before...

Well you could have posted a tripod pic from the artwork that accompanies the Jeff Wayne (album) version of WotW. At least the HL2 Striders are closer looking to them. Or are you one of these kids that was born waaay after it, and doesn't know it exists, and thinks that the Tom Cruise version is the first?!

wotw, the tom cruise one was not "the tome cruise one" , it was the second hollywood one, any dumb actor couda played that part in the moive. As for the tripods in it they where better then alot of them that I'v seen but definatly not the best.

i googled "war of the worlds tripods" can you guess what the third picture was?

its very obvious does this not even so much as resmble a strider, or a strider reseble it?http://www.spellcaster.com/tomkidd/Tripod33.jpg
actually now that i think about it kinda looks more like a hunter.

Shasta: that has nothing to do; if you know it, just don't answer to my first question...and yes, today IS THE FIRST TIME i saw a PICTURE of war of the worlds (actually it was a documental about Orson Wells), so what? i still don't understand why you post such a stupid thing...

Heh, you guys are so evil. Newbies are being tortured :(

You are right Excesos, Wotw's being extremely old we believe was used as a template to base striders from. I'm sure you picked up on that right away after seeing the picture. Differences are slight, but generally you can see- they are pretty much the same thing.

Headcrabs were inspired from Facehuggers too. :)

And rollermines from Danimal's genitals.

Yes really.

I remember the old rollermines. Now THOSE could pass for testicles.

Who didn't scream, "Strider!" in the theater when the tripods first came walking out of the ground?

dose no one even read my posts, i usually say it all right then and there, then some one repeats it... wtf?

Yes, thanks to kacation_man, please some administrator delete this thread

thank you... some recogition for stateing the obvious is always nice... :D

wotw, the tom cruise one was not "the tome cruise one" , it was the second hollywood one,
Sweet Jesus, I had JUST said that (and I spelt Tom right). And YOU complain about people repeating what YOU said....

i didn't repeat it, ignore the typo and reread it. my point was that any one could have played the same roll he did in that movie, and I was saying it was the second ( possibly third ) war of the worlds movie "Hollywood" has ever produced.
