whenever im playing any source game, my computer starts doing that internal beeping noise after a couple minutes of playing, it stops as soon as i quit. it did it a little while ago but i never thought much of it, i recently formated, and have the newest drivers for my video card also, yet it still continues. Anyone have an idea on how i can get rid of this annoying sound?

LOL! Read your CPU, Motherboard, and GPU manuals. You will find that they say things like "If your _____ reaches overheating temp, a beep will sound _____ times. If your fan stops working, a beep will sound _____ times. If your PC is about to explode, there will be no beep, as it will already be too late for you."

And so on. Then all you need to do is find out what the particular beep you are getting means, and rectify the problem. For example, if the beep was to warn you of an overheating component, perhaps blasting the inside of your PC with an air compresser to get rid of the dust will do the trick. You should be doing that regularly anyway. When did you last do it?

So basically, you haven't said what kind of rig you are running, or posted any specs, so there isn't much hope of anyone knowing offhand what your beeps mean. So go read your manuals.

Also if you OC something CPU/GPUm way high with stock cooling, you may not hear peeping when doing normal task as your CPU/GPU usage is not up to 100%, but will peep when playing games as games will but tons of wait onto your CPU/GPU.
Try under clocking some. Peep may be coming from PC internal software like BIOS. Also download one these temperature monitoring utility softwares and you will know for sure if this peep is heat related.

Good Luck.

Just unplug the damn PC speaker. No trouble at all.

Well... no *beeping* at all.

Well, common sense does dictate that you kind of need that peeping. Because, now it is the only warning you’ve got.

Your CPU/GPU may well be on it’s way to destruction and you won’t know about it, till its too late and you’re dumb founded with black screen. Because you unplugged the only thing that warned you.

I OC my Newcastle to 2.2GHz and PC speaker is plugged in, and it never peeped. Don't it make you wonder?
Put that plug back in there and do the right thing. Know why is it peeping.

Just because it’s not peeping anymore doesn’t mean problem is solved.

Good Luck.

Yes, it's probably overheating. Check the compewter for dust and make sure it's a good cooling device and so on.

Thing is, I had a friend that had a beeping all the time and it wouldn't stop. There was no overheat issue. It just kept beeping. So in the end he unplugged it. Worked fine ever since.

I understand.

Unlike your friend's PC, this may be completely different situation, and may cause him a lot, if he doesn't investigate the source thoroughly. And simply disconnecting PC internal speaker won't help him but harm in the long/shorter run.

Until he finds that everything is working in good environment/condition, then one may say peeping may relate to dysfunctional, then one may disconnect speaker.

Barney chill tbh ... AJ was only having a laugh no need to go into Tech-Mode ... but yeah, just do as what most people have said and if all else fails get a new computer ... simply because its fun :D

Uh huh, do note that I am fully aware of that and that I was sarcastic when telling him to unplug it.

I thought we were supposed to be in tech-mode, I mean; what the hell else are we doing in here? To have laughs?
I’m sure there are places in this forum for that purpose “To have laughs” but here in the Help And Support page, things are little different. When some one says my PC is peeping, I can’t simply say unplug the internal speaker, because they may miss the laughing part on that and do just what you told.
So I guess no need for me to chill there tbh.

Jesus, Sarcastic? You supposed let people know when you’re playing and when not. You gave this man what looked like an honest answer and now (2hrs and half later) say you were sarcastic? OK whatever.

Plenty of need for you to chill, even within these deep dark parts of the forum people know how to have a laugh, obviously your one that needs to learn that ;)

I got nothing more to say to you.

That's the self destruct feature that isn't in your manual.

If they take my advice fully serious, then they really should reconsider, asking for help over the internet. But okey, you want sarcastic? Fine.

You should unplug the fan, AND the pc speaker, lol!!111 :dork: :borg: :smoking: :frown: :borg: :frown: :dork: :smoking: :frown:

Well, at least I wasn't the one who got pissed over someone for taking his comments seriously... over the internet.

I did have a decent amount of dust in my PC, but i clean it every few months, and just did it 2 weeks ago. I cleaned it cuz it was beeping. But today i was playing FEAR and it started beeping, and im playing on pretty low settings now, a lot lower then when i first played through FEAR, same with HL2. i quickly minimized the game and looked in my ATI catalyst control center, and it says my videocard temperature was about 92 degrees, whats the normal range for what it should be at?

BAAAHHHHAHAHAhahah..... normal (under load) is about 40-50. Damn. Try a new GPU fan perhaps?

I don't know much about ATI cards but its normal for Nvidia to run at around 70-80 degrees under load. BTW what card are you using? And did you OC anything?

ati x800 and no i didnt overclock, I opened up the PC again and checked out some of the fans, was some more dust i guess i missed. Especially in the fan on the card, think i totally missed that one. seems to be fine now, playing fear all day and no beeps, thx guys. seems to be running at like 70 degrees while im playing. hope that took care of it, thx again.

That’s great news, and you very much welcome.

BTW, I'm glad you didn’t listen to these Meatheads telling you to unplug PC speaker.

QFT

Are you by chance running the nVidia "Temp Logger"? That will make the PC beep if the GPU temperature gets too high (unless you change the stock 'alert' temp). If it's not running, I won't get the beep.

I get his beep occassionally actually, except it's extremely rare .. for some reason it happened yesterday while i was playing WoW, so i opened up the CCC and it stopped :|
