Converting mod from Ep1 to Ep2 engine - texture problems

I wanted to move my little map to the Orange Box engine, but I got into some problems. My custom textures do not show up ingame - I see the pink checkerbox instead. Is there a quick workaround for this, or would rebuilding the vtf files with the Orange Box's vtex.exe help?

Also, quite a few HL2/EP1 textures can't be found when using the Ep2 engine, which surprised me a bit. But these aren't visible in Hammer at all, while mine are... look above.
 
I don't think that you need to rebuild the textures; older .vtf files should still work.
What errors are you getting in the console?
 
I don't get *any* errors in the console regarding custom textures, which is odd.
Someone recommended putting the vtf/vmt files to a subfolder in Materials (right now they're in root of that folder) - gonna check that later today.
