Hey, all:
This past weekend, I released the first Beta for my Half-Life 2 mod called Crates and Barrels. It is a unique mod for several reasons including:
-It is not a shooter, RPG, total conversion, or anything like a "typical" mod.
-It's a collection of simple classic minigames including Snake, Breakout, Cratetris, and three others.
-Although it requires Half-Life 2, it does not use the Source engine or Steam, but rather a very simple game engine coded in (believe it or not!) Visual Basic 2008 Express.
Here is a composite of screenshots from the six games:
And here's a video clip of the game play:

To play Crates and Barrels, you need to have the latest version of .NET Framework 3.5 and Managed DirectX runtimes installed (links for both are contained in the readme file in the mod.) Also, you need Half-Life 2 of course, as Crates and Barrels does not contain any ripped HL2 content but rather reads everything it needs from the GCF files in real time.
The point of Crates and Barrels is to play simple, classic video games that have a comic twist on the Half-Life 2 universe. This is my third mod project to reach public release. Years ago, I created the Todesangst and T2DEF mods for the original Half-Life. Those were more "serious" works and this time I did something sillier. I intend to periodically release new versions with more simple games and new twists on the existing games, based on user feedback.
I know I'm posting this awfully close to April first, but this isn't a gag - this is a real mod. Please give the Beta a try and let me know what you think!
You can view more details about Crates and Barrels including links for downloading the mod at either of these two sites:

Early feedback has been very positive from those who have played it, but there are some yet-to-be-solved glitches getting it to run in Vista (works sometimes) and Vista64 (doesn't run at all).
Thanks!
