I thought CS:S was being made available next week. If so I thought I would ask the following question:

From Malc:
If you buy CS:S next week how will this be offset against the cost of HL2? Also, any idea if the HL2 CE will be available in UK/Europe, or is it best to order it thru Steam ;)

Hello,
You will not be able to order just the CS:S when the packages are released.

Does this mean that you have to purchase the whole package before you can play CS:S next week. :hmph:

You buy both Half-life2 and CSS, but you only get to play css now. You will then be able to play half-life 2 when it is released.
There is no option to buy only css :P

Yep. You have to purchase a HL2 package over Steam if you wish to play CS:S.

But we don't know any details of price yet ???

Correct?!?!

:borg:

that kind of makes me want to cancle my pre-order for the collectors edition to get cs:s.

If they offer CS:S seperatly down the line all the CS players will be pissed for buying HL2 now. All I can say is "gee gee"

so if it's seperate , and quite a way in advance, will that then mean there will be the usual multiplayer button in HL2 itself that shortcut's you to CS:S when you want to play it..? cause that seem's awfully daft considering CS:S is seperate anyway.

I doubt it. It will probably just show up on Steam as "Counter-Strike:Source".

My guess is that the 'Multiplayer' link on the menu in HL2 will take you to the same menu as what CS:Source beta is now, minus the Stress Test option.

It may even say 'CS: Source' rather than 'Multiplayer'. There might even be a 'Mods' option, a la Doom 3 and UT2004.

I don't think they will be pissed. There is still CS 2 to look forward to. Besides hl2 is fun for everybody, even grandma.

But I still think it is a bit cheeky getting people to pay for HL2 upfront so that they can play CS:S. We are putting a lot of faith in vALVE to deliver HL2 off of the back of what was a free mod the the original.

It is a free mod. That's the reason that you can get it early (and why you can't get it seperately for free). If it wasn't free and you could buy it seperately then they wouldn't be able to release it on Steam earlier than the retail edition.

You have to buy Half-Life 2 because it's a mod . People go on about how CS:S was free but ignore the fact that they had to buy Half-Life. It's the same deal with Half-Life 2. You have to buy the engine to run the mod.
