The Source Engine powered title developed by Arkane Studios, Dark Messiah: Of Might & Magic, will definitely be making its way onto Steam later this year - October - at $50USD along side its retail counterpart. Valve has sent out a press release with all of the necessary information you need.
"I am a long-time fan of the Might & Magic franchise," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Valve is delighted to have Dark Messiah of Might & Magic on Steam's growing list of new releases for the holiday season. But, more importantly, I just can't wait to play it."

EDIT: I thought it was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. And besides, Might and Magic is the franchise, by titling it as Dark Messiah: Of Might and Magic, it looks like Dark Messiah's the franchise.

Getting the limited edition and i hope i can register the game to steam from retail.
 
The limited edition doesnt look worth it. I'd rather get the regular.
 
Ya the extra goodies arent that great. Four extra weapons to start with that I'll probably get anyway. And cards and videos? Nah Im good. The game is sweet though.
 
Good news for steam, although very expected. DMOMM will be the first really big title on steam, apart from valve's own games, which is something steam desperately needs.

I would probably go for the "limited edition" if it was offered over steam (without the card obviously), but buying retail is absolutely no option for me. The limited edition is likely to cost slightly more than USD80 where I live so USD50 on steam is a very good offer, plus I <3 steam and want it and valve to be as successful as possible.

will it be fully integrated a-la-hl2?
in other words: do people (who buy DM in stores) need a steam account in order to play the sp campaign?
 
I think I'm gonna get the regular version from steam. I played the demo about 100 times. Gonna wait for a review first of course, because I'm not keen on the idea of wasting 50 bucks..
 
Seen the videos and it looks good fun, I'll play the demo if it comes out on steam, and I'll see if I like it :)

You should grab the demo regardless... admittedly it's hueg, even for a game let alone a demo, but replayability is high and it was tres fun. Great graphics and physics, too - *gasp* at the actual swordplay! *wet yourself* at kicking people into spikes on walls, impaling them! *swear very loudly* as you miss a physics simulated hanging rope as you perform a physics simulated jump off a physics simulated hanging platform and begin the physics simulated parabola to your physics simulated death!

Why is it still $50 on Steam?
That's the damned MSRP. Isn't the point of Digital Distrobution to cut costs and deliver back to the consumers?

In this case, I see absolutely no reason at all to buy this on steam, unless you're very impatient.


This is as bad as when, for a time, Valve was charging $40 for the stand alone HL2, with no CSS, or anything else, on Steam, when you could get the CE in some stores for $35!!

They have an agreement with their publisher (physical box) to not undercut them I assume.

I bet once digital distribution becomes more popular and more people are on broadband, games will get cheaper since publishers will matter less (and if there are boxed copies, the publishers won't have much power to bargain).

I would if I could be bothered to install it etc... If I'm bored I might do so, otherwise I'll wait for Steam's version :)

Somehow, I doubt this. If they can charge the same, and make even MORE profit, I doubt anything will ever change :/
 
Charging the same means that small games for niche audiences can still make a profit and be viable to make. In the end as a consumer, it doesn't really matter to you that you're paying for a publisher, does it? You just want to play the game, and you can do that just as well through digital distribution like steam as you can with a box from a shop.

Lowering the price of games will only damage the small game studios.

Yeah DD is catching on.... Developers are the ones who are going to make it catch on.
Lets say, Developer A can make $7 a copy retail on a $40 - 50 game. or Developer A can make $35 a copy via DD on a $40 - 50 game.

What one sound better? Publisher and Store taking most of the money or the Developer taking most of the money?
 
I agree - people are hugely lazy, thats what makes DD successful. I quite probably wouldn't have bought most of the steam games I have bought if I had to go outside to get them or even wait for them to be delivered to me. Steam means I can get a game in a few clicks, no stupid installers, no serial numbers etc.

Digital distribution is probably the way pretty much all music, films and games will be distributed in the future, it just depends how far in the future we're talking about how much DRM screws things up...
 
Too bad about the system requirements. Time for a new compy. When I got a 1.6 MHz, it was 1337.
 
Gamespot has open beta activation codes for Dark Messiah (MP). I'd do it, it's downloading for me right now.

PS. works for Basic members, too.
