Ok so I was wondering 2 things:
1) Is this in the right section?
2) My question.

Is there a demo mod for the source engine. What I mean by that is that you record your demo in some game (CS:S for example) and you want to go back and maybe be a spec and fly around in your demo as it plays out for you. If there is one, would someone kindly point me in the right direction. If there isn't, why not?

I don't think the source engine has this ability already, but then again, I dont know much

Thanks for any help

Nobody?

I know about using shift+f2 but that is buggy and it wont show you in it

If you mean like the unreal engines real time viewing then no (as far as im aware anyways thats why i hate hammer ^.^)

Can't you use the console to record a demo of the game?
I believe you can move around it in and stuff in it. I don't know the exact console commands but the HL1 engine even had it. I'm sure someone here knows though you could google it.

Which would make no sense because he is talking about a Demo not a map.

Yes you can do that in the Source engine as well, but like I said, its buggy and doesnt seem finished.

Lets say I have a demo of me running through a hall, I see an enemy jump around, crouch, and dodge the him as best as I can and end up killing him. Well I want to make the camera do something like bullet time where it rotates around the two of us as we fight. You will run into a few problems. One of them is, you wont see the model of you fighting the other guy. Second problem is whatever actions you did will show up in the camera thats flying around too. So when you duck, the camera ducks, and jumps, and all that. I dont know if I'm doing something wrong and thats why I cant see myself, but the other problem is definitly not me.

I know there is something like this for RtCW, but I cant find the name of what was used. And Im sure there might be other games that have something like this but I haven't played them.

Tell me about it. Doesn't make any sense to have bar-none the best demo editor out there for any game yet the demos themselves are pretty useless. Well the smoother part, anyway, the actual editor doesn't seem to do jack shit either. The things that do work are pretty useless, and you'd do them in an NLE anyway, like fade-outs and text, etc.

For 1.6 at least we had dem_forcehltv 1 which at least allowed some functionality, like getting some good free look shots. Took care of the all the camera bobs, etc. That command alone would significantly improve source demos functionality. At least we could get some good, non-jerky recams.

And there's also

sv_cheats 1
thirdperson

Which sucks so bad it's not even funny. I don't see why they bother at all if something isn't going to work. Just leave it out. Same goes for srctv. Don't know why they went ahead and re-released it when you can't even spectate anyone at all. Absolutely useless. And even when you could change spec mode, you couldn't recam using the smoother because it wouldn't allow you to make a selection in order to recam. gfg valve.

I'll be working up a bitch-list to post at steam forums, with all this and more included. Won't do much probably. If they'd get their shit together the source engine could easily rule the machinima world, gaming-wise anyway.

Im sure posting what you got there might help some
