Big news... Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton just introduced a bill that would link Congressional pay increases to increases in the federal minimum wage. It would require that the federal minimum wage be increased by the same percentage amount as Congressional salaries every year.

...

Senator Clinton's bill will immediately raise minimum wage to more than $7 an hour, and provide automatic raises, just as Congress receives.

This is absolutely fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of Senator Clinton, but this is a brilliant plan indeed :D

that's a fantastic idea. huge kudos.

I'm liken her already. As long as we can get around this whole anti-video game thing were good.

THEY AIN'T GOT THE BALLS! Anyone want to take bets that this won't fly? I'm all for it, but will be surprised if it passes. Hopefully there's no rider that says that raising the minimum wage will also increase congressional salaries. Legal protection for the status quo!

Yeah well when it comes around fo the elections and someone does not vote for it well it's gonna be brought up.
"Didn't want to increase minimum wage"

I doubt the republicans will stand for it.

It's good that her idea creates closer ties between the govies and the people, but even with my paltry 4 months of economics class I can tell you that exceptionly high minimum wages are not a good thing- With every dollar increase in the minimum wage, thousands of people lose their jobs. These people, almost always the poor at the bottom of the corperate ladder, are the very people a high minimum wage is meant to protect.

While a higher minimum wage does help prevent employers from exploiting their workers (especially ones who are not accustomed to American employment, such as immagrants), I believe this can be better remedied by more specific government regulation, or simply by having a balanced and fair minimum wage.

On another note, how does Hillary expect this bill to pass Congress?

I'would like to see the gap between the rich and the poor decrease in size, but won't this create inflation and in the end be bad.

I'm all for seeing minimum wage increase. As long as our inflation doesn't as well. As Grey Fox said.

I doubt the republicans will stand for it.

I hope you just speak of whatever tight-ass republicans there are in office. Because most of us republicans are ordinary citizen folk just like any other democrat. We're the little guy. Just because we're republican doesn't mean we're anti-money.

Yes, I meant the 'tight ass' Republicans.

If nothing else, I think that the bill puts them in a tight spot- I mean, you'll look exceedingly assholeish voting against it.

Ugh, every time Congress is up for a pay raise, they should automatically get a pay cut, the result of which should go to the workers and/or the destitute.

Kick ass, considering I'm a minumum wage worker. I would like some more pay. lol

Don't think of it as "more pay", think of it as "higher chances of losing your job". :P
