I have searched everywhere in c17 but i could find 0 mirrors.

Not even in the bathrooms. :frown:

I want me mirrors

heh. maybe it's some part of combine law(combines don't want to look at themselves ;)

grooming is now illegal in city 17. naughty combs.

Nah, there is no gordon model. So if you were to look in the mirror, all you would see is a floating gun and two floating arm parts.

Yeah, kinda dumb you didn't see any reflections of yourself in HL2. Even Duke Nukem 3d had those :d

Unfortauntley, the daily rations only consist of a measly meal. No beauty products for your average citizen i'm afraid.

Think about it, you've mentioned Duke 3D because it's the exception rather than the rule - not that many FPS have mirrors. I can only think of Doom 3, Duke 3d and Deus Ex. Any others?

Not having mirrors helps in not breaking the immersion of the game... seeing a reflection of someone who is NOT you would be all-too-clear reminder that you're not the guy in City-17. They can at least get away with not modelling your reflection in water without anyone noticing, though.

Swat 3, Postal 2, Red Faction and many more...

They couldn't reproduce anyway so sex may be out of the question, and if sex is out of the question then why bother looking good when you have better things to worry about.

Yep, but i would still like to see some mirrors with your own reflection in HL²:DM. Its not like they try to make it seem more real there for players. :)

Hmmm... mirrors in DM... that's a good idea. That would add a whole new level of strategy, as you could see if someone is coming up behind you, see around corners... that would be neat.

Immersion my ass tho, why bother putting Gordon on the box if it's YOU playing the game... Must be another reason..

yes of course...valve must be too lazy to make mirrors, or they don't want you to see the gman lurking behind you...

ok im going to bed now

Bah, just make a camera and put it in a map.

Max Payne 2 has them :p

Hell, I wouldn't be looking out for mirrors with the CPs hot on my tail!!! :P

The mirror encourages vanity and self indulgence. Thus it only takes away from evolution as people focus on their individuality instead of helping another for the geater good. Being the enlightened beings they are it makes sense that the personal mirror goes against them and should be abolished.

No mirrors=you don't see Gordon=more imersive gameplay

There is one reflection of Gordon

In Kleiner's lab, you can pick up something that looks like a stereo system amplifier. On the right side of the front panel is (I'm guessing) a plastic covering. The amplifier looking thingy is right near the mini-transporter. If you pick it up you can see the reflection of Gordon's face in it. Obviously make sure you pick it up with the front panel facing you. Now, having said that, If there is already a thread beat to death about this I apologize. Also, I'm at work so I don't have any screenshots to show and prove my theory, but I'll leave it to the masses to find out for themselves.

Don't forget Quake 3 (although it's seldom used). I think we've established the "rule" by now.

yeh welll those games suck so... lol jk. But (too laz to quote) it IS more imersive becuse yo dont look at the box the whole F****ING time you play the game so=more immersive biatch lol

I think valve should have put mirrors in the game, but only in places where if you were to look into them at yourself, the light would be extremely dramatic, and your face wouldn't be visible.

Does it really make that much difference?

I mean this is the argument: Mirrors.

Pfffft.

city 17 is full of hobos thats why they all look ugly/dirty/peopobly very smelly

I found shadows in Doom 3 to be great! Mostly because the game was fairly creepy and whenever I looked in the mirror, I knew that something awful was going to come up behind me. I'm sure Valve could have put mirrors in if they really wanted to, my guess as to why they didn't is either because it would have been too big a pain in the butt to put into this engine, or they elected not to.

I think with Combine Striders, troops, Headcrabs, zombies, ant lions, shelling, etc - that personal grooming would be low on my list of things to do. So, I guess the answer is, No, the people of City 17 do not care in the least how they look. Except the Groovy Alyx, who is dressed a bit like Jenny from the Block.
