Well he has a blackmesa sticker on his suitcase.
But yeah, I dont think he works for black mesa, certainly some obscure organisation secretly controlling the world behind the scenes.

the illuminati are a "secret" organization that supposedly control governments around the world. Its a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. It is never mentioned in HL1. You can find all kinds of "facts" about them if you google illuminati.

I often wondered that myself, maybe not the illuminati, but a similar organisation.
The G-Man seemed to know what was going to happen with the experiment that day, which leads me to wonder what is his plan. Im sure this has been orcastrated from the start.
Maybe him and the adminastator were planning the cascade from the start...
Its possible then that in HL2 the G-Man is making his own grab for power, or backstabbing those he once allied himself with.
Maybe things didn't exactly go to plan, the combine was to powerful and so the G-Man needs gordon to mix things up a bit so he can move again...
Oooo such fun guessing, and to think I will only find out nearly 1.5 months after the rest of you.

The Illuminati was a REAL organisation in the 1700's, the French government caught them trying to influence politics back them, and had a few executed....the rest dissapeared...100 years later their symbol (the all seeing eye) appears on the American one dollar bill, go figure. They really did exist, they are listed in most encyclopedias, the question is do they still exist.

Yes the illuminati is real. There are many secret societies that want a world government. Skull and Bones, Bilderbergs, Priorty of Sion, Bohemian Club, High level masons ... I garantee that the "Illuminati" will not be involved in the Half-Life plot, at any point, because "the Illuminati" has basically become a cliche plot device people use when they need a conspiracy and can't think of anything original (Tomb Raider, anyone?). I somehow doubt Marc Laidlaw woud resort to that. There will be lots of twists and turns in the plot, but none of them will be as glaringly typical as 'an organisation called the illuminati trying to control the world'.

Besides, from what we've seen and heard so far, it seems that Earth has fallen to the combine.. Political groups no longer have any control, and the Illuminati rely on manipulation of influential political groups for power. The events in HL are much bigger than mere politics.
