is a victim of circumstance?

a famous quote:

There will be no HL2 media released until the game is released

CS:s is delayed, and we get a bunch of pics and a bink.

last year:

HL2 will come out this Sept 30 err holiday season.

does valve keep him out of the loop or is it he just doesnt pay attention/?

The quote you're referring to actually pans out to be true.

I believe the quote was only last week, and yes ok we've seen print magazines with new stuff but those magazines will have had the media 4-8 weeks ago. Also we've just seen PHL post some new screenshots which I understand have been promised to them for a while.

They hope the game would ship for Spetember 30th but it simply wasn't finished. After the leak they didn't set a date in stone for the holidays it was just an estimation which then had to be missed because again it wasn't ready.

Doug Lombardi is definitely knows what he's doing./

Yeah... he is sacrificing his credibility and subjecting himself to the hatred of the populace just to make sure everybody and his pet gopher has heard of HL2 and is going to buy it. Probably exactly what you want from a marketing manager, when you think of it.

Or maybe he's trying to keep you rather ungrateful people informed of Half-Life 2? And has become some sort of hate figure due to all those whining baby-like posts where you scream at him for being a liar because Half-Life 2 didn't come out when you wanted it to.

What? How am hating him? I was saying he was a PR genius! :-/

Edit: btw I don't think you will ever find a post where I was whining about them delaying the game, I have never whined about that. The game wasn't done and they delayed it to make it better.

You just practically re-told my above post to me in different words and rewrote into a flame...

hmmm lets just say hes not my fav valve employee.

what they said

He seems like a nice enough guy, its not because of him that things happen, he is just doing his job.
he will take all the flaming for the delays and whatever else fans want to blame him for.. and will hardly get any credit when the game is released... pitty... but he does work at Valve, and get paid oodles.. so I guess its a good trade-off.

Yea he does get that nice little pay check. And what do you think he has a hard time sleeping :\ .

Lets just say whenever Valve now announce something you better just forget about it.

Lombardi is part of that problem and as such he gets flak.

Maybe if Valve would sit down and just make their software rather than anounce dates that constantly slip.. people wouldnt be pissed.

Thank you. Well said.

Well, that's me forgotten about Half-Life 2. Obviously doesn't exist.

Valve are in a no win situation.

Either people are angry at them for not giving any date, or when they do give a date, people think it's set in stone and get pissed off when they miss it.

Valve do what any company does, they try to keep us informed. Just people have stupid expectations of Valve.

Yes, they did a wonderful job of keeping the TF2 fans informed. It only took them 2-3 years before they stated that they'd decided to move TF2 to the Source engine. Whatever. Fact is people have good reasons not to put a shred of trust into anything Lombardi says. His credibility is non-existent as far as I'm concerned. BTW, still waiting on that SDK that was supposed to be on it's way since March.

Feath you realise you are coming off as the worlds most ignorant fanboy?

Dougy is right. Valve need to stop trying to be the cool, fun PR guys and get on with making the game. Look at id. They didn't invite 13 year olds into their offices for fun little tours, they didn't answer question after pointless question from anyone kid who has something to say.

What id did do was release a damn good game, and that is all they needed to do to make their fans happy.

Sometimes it seems like all Valve care about is making their fans think they are cool an accessible. And lord knows it works on some of you, but alot of us can see right through it.
And for the sake of my sanity, please do not turn this into another "Doom 3 sucks" thread.

Jeez man chill. iD did let people visit them, just not as much as Valve. And i'm sure Valve will release a damn good game as well, so just relax i'm sure they're doing their job.

Doug Lombardi is in fact Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, Iraqi Minister of Information.

It's true, all of it.
