:sniper: :farmer:

as most of you know, breen shows some sympathy as he's bring Alyx and Eli to the portal ("Lets see how well it serves you... At the far side of a combine Portal!")
I have a screenshot. It might not be perfect, but you can still see sympathy.

OF COURSE HE ****ING DOES! HE'S HUMAN!

What he wanted was what he thought was best for humanity, an alternative to total finality and destruction of mankind, a chance to achieve our dreams, to get out of the cradle and find our true sustenance.

I know, i just wanted the title to catch your attention! you dont have to flame me.

He wasn't flaming you at all. Just agreeing and furthering what you said.

I'M flaming you! You're stupid and foolish and of COURSE Breen has a soul; OMG are you some kind of total moron or what?! I mean, Jesus Christ, it's so apparent that he has a soul, Captain Obvious, thanks for pointing it out to us!

Just joshing you, man. Welcome to the forums, and all that.

lol. ive been in these forums since 05 i think. :P
i still think that breen is awsome tho.

Ah. I just assumed, because of your join date and your post count. Well...welcome to the forums anyway, we'll just call it a belated welcome.

And yes, Breen <3. One of the best villains ever created.

Yes, its one of Breens finer moments, his expression is absolutely excellent. "Dad...I'm so sorry.." "Alyx, sweetheart."
For a moment or two, perhaps Breen realized exactly what he'd done.

Yeah. As discussed in your topic about Breen, thats one of the things that makes Breen one of the coolest villians of all time. He really doesn't have evil intentions; if you look at it a certain way, he is almost like a protagonist against the combine. He's trying to save everyone's lives by calming them down and reducing the resitance in the "transition period". But that moment when Eli and Alyx said those words, his expression matched the words "What have I done...". even though it was just for a flash, it showed that Breen's personality really does go deep into that of mankind, and that he's not some fearless/emotionless villain.

Breen truely is an amazing character, as well as many others in the HL universe.

Well, If he feels remors, he doesnt let that get in the way of what hes doing. And he does most of what he does to save his own ass. "i can still deliver earth, but not without your help!"
He fears the combine, and I cant realy agree that he tries to "save" mankinde with turning people into stalkers and such. His motives are knoledge i figure.

EDIT. Btw, what says he has a soul? Oooh look at me! im a human and i have a soul. Thats all philosofic.
Pablo Baroda says: You have to earn your soul, throw prayrs and such. Not realy sure about his last name and its not an exact quote.

He may be greedy, driven by logic and the desire for knowledge but at his core he is still a human being. Breen is a scientist, he has a clear passion for the extra terrestrial. You heard him when approaching his office, describing another universe to Eli - he was fascinated, and he is constantly reassuring himself this is the right thing.

Breen isn't a good guy, his intentions aren't fantastic, and he obviously cares more for himself than others, but he still recognizes the fact that he has doomed us to an eternity of slavery. But he also firmly believes Gordons choices are one of exinction. Breen had a choice, like Gordon. And he made it, and he either has to live with it, or regret it.

So what you mean is that if he regrets it, he dies? :O

I know I know, he did what he thought was right. But what i mean is that he still does. I watch that scen twice now and i dont realy see regret in his face. its like he just stops for a second, wrinkle his eyebrows, marvel over the situation and then sen Alyx and Eli on their marry little way. I see no chanse he whould regret himself and let them all go or just keep them in his office.

"the bargin we should be making is for Elis life so he can bla bla bla!"
"your more then bla bla bla yourself" He was planing on killing them all, but maybee try to get Gordon on his side to stop the rebels.

Mossman is in love with Eli, to the extent, which she goes completely out of her way to save him. Breen is Eli's oldest friend, there was a time they were actually friends - and the entire conflict has set them apart.
Breen wasn't going to kill them, he was going to send them through a Combine portal, and presumably they'd be stalkerised. Breen was out of options. Eli was proving too stubborn to see things Breen’s way (not surprising), and nobody seemed to be seeing things from his point of view. Ultimately he wanted to try and manipulated Gordon, by teasing and mocking him as he did so - but Eli and Alyx wouldn't have it.

So, he sends them away. But you can't miss his expression, its regret, sorrow even - seeing what he is about to do to Eli and Alyx, father and daughter, a loving relationship severed. Humanity.

Good god. You might be right. But Breen still deserves to be... Xombiefied!!!

(I know i hit the X key.)

He deserves to be sent whirling down one of those energy chutes within the Citadel. But not before he has played an awesome part in Aftermath.

I really do hope he plays a role in Aftermath. My question though is how will he escape the explosion? I mean, the source of the explosion is right where he was (in the giant spherical core). Plus the sphere was levitating high in the air, so wouldn't he like, fall down or something?

Bah I'm sure it will all be answered in Aftermath. It really would be a waste if he wasn't atleast in the first episode.

Yeah, I thought HL2 displayed some very human characters..

.. Breen's dialogue/facial expressions were very very good :)

He was further away from the explosion than Alyx. Once you took out the core, his bubble drifted down to the bottom of the reactor spire.

Im sure when it hit the ground he just ran away.

Oh and btw, Sweden won.

See, I don't see regret in Breen's face at the end when he's about to send Eli and Alyx through the portal. When I look at him, i see annoyance

Heh, it isn't annoyance. If it was annoyance it'd be the same face we see on him when Mossman is moaning about Eli.
