Episode three surprise.

I wonder if, and how Dog and GLaDOS would relate to each other.

Would they fall in love

/presses E to give riomhaire a hug
yes

HL's ending was great, and was made retroactivly better by HL2's reference to it.

Half-Life 1 had two choices at the end.

When the Gman said "not to give you the illusion of free choice", I believe Valve were subtly telling you there will no longer be any split endings like that of Half-Life.

But then I don't know.

Well, you didn't really have a choice, because almost everyone wanted to live. I thought that there would be more gameplay, but I was wrong.

I know it was only the illusion of a choice, but I still liked it because of that, rather than in spite of.

But you know there will be. They didn't spend all the time developing her and Gordon's relationship for nothing.

While the idea of having a choice at the end of the game is cool in concept, it would really screw up the validity of events in later installments.

But like the Gman says, there is the illusion of free choice.

What would really screw everything over is that either using the technology or destroying it generates the same outcome, a problem that we have to solve in HL3

BTW, the tech that I want to see in Ep3 is Avalanches

Plus ever since that 2004 presentation of Source, Valve haven't really used there dynamic brush deformation, would be ace you where in a snowy landscape and you see multiple buldging trails in the snow, slowly heading towards you. Then the furry version of the Houndeyes are revealed, the sort that are good in frozen tundra.

I always thought the dynamic luminescence tech was proof-of-concept in preparation of revealing the new improved houndeye,..or a cousin of it

What is Episode three going to bring to the Half-Life series?
Closure, hopefully.

The changes you suggested seem far to radical for EP3 for me. I don't think Valve will do anything more radical than they have done previously with EP's 1 & 2. More developed NPC in EP1? hardly radical. What new lighting? I didn't think they came until EP2? Speaking of which EP2's open environments were not really that open were they. Apart from the new lighting, vehicle & a couple of new enemies (though it has to be said the Hunters were awesome) EP2 didn't really bring anything new to the series.

I think it's catch 22 with the HL series - on the one hand we want to see new things & maybe even new gameplay structures. On the other hand we really don't want Valve messing with our beloved HL series to much for fear of them messing things up. Then everyone will say they should have left it alone. Hence why I hope for cosure in EP3. I don't think this will be the end of the HL universe by any stretch of the imagination. But I do think Valve need closure sooner than later & to move onto something else. You can have to much of a good thing & I think if Valve deliver an awesome game in EP3 & then wrap things up you'll hear no complaints from me.

NO HUGS/KISSES WITH ALYX!

Interpersonal contact creeps me out enough IRL. :shudder:

Ep. 1 introduced HDR lighting and a bunch of other minor graphical changes(such as a new facial animation system). Ep. 2 introduced a new shadowing system and again other minor enhancements.

Anyway, I understand what you're saying...as much as I love the Episodes and find them much more refined than HL2, they just don't have that feeling of "newness" I got when when I first played HL2 and still do today. Once they wrap up the current storyline I'm confident that they'll cook up something just as amazing and game-changing as HL1 and HL2.

Episode one showcased a newer more developed NPC and a new lighting system. Episode two had the new use of open enviroments and I think one other new thing. What is Episode three going to bring to the Half-Life series?

I think it might be the abbility to choose what story path you follow. Episode two imo set this up with the Borealis and the two opposing views on what to do with what is aboard. Isaac thinks they could harness whatever is there to help destroy the Combine. Eli wants to destroy it at all cost's. Alyx will probably side with Eli but that doesn't mean Gordon will. And it will be the player who decides wether to destroy it or use it.

Now this does sound a bit complicated especially with the fact that we still have Half-Life 3 on the way. But Bioware's Mass Effect has a ending storyline that differs on what the players does. so mabye Valve can do it with Half-Life.

Lurk moar next tiem.

It sounds good on paper, but to implement it would fail drastically.
