let's say u put a grenade in a bucket is the explosion gonna be channeled to the opening or is it going to explode like in hl1???

if it will be channeled this makes me think of pipe pombs ..etc...that`ll rule :D

i dont think they behave that way, im pretty sure the bucket would just fly across the room asif a gren was placed next to it, like in the other havok engine games.

the bucket will probably be destroyed

If you put a grenade in a bucket, wouldn't the bucket just rip apart?

there wont be explosion psychics like that in half life (confirmed in the valve e-mail recource thread)

yes the bucket will be ripped apart but the explosion will affect much more the upper part of the bucket cuz it would be channeled there....think of a grenade in a cannon... like the gun powder in the cannon it explodes and drives the shell out cuz that's the only exit...

the pipes bombs foe example are made of a charge in a pipe to channel the power of the explosion to a certain direction of the pipe`s opening,, :smoking:

actually, valve didn't really get into destructible objects, just the physics. Although i assume you could make a script for a bucket to rip apart with the half life sdk.

I don't think we actually have any info at all from Valve about volumetric explosions in HL2.

check the valve info thread.. there was an e-mail about that

trowing a grenade in a hallway and if it would tunnel it trough the hallway

but valve didnt support it.

I think that the bucket will eyther blow up or pop up in the air

but of course, "it can be done in a mod"--- arghhh!!!

I want to play the original game with all that included..

So true. I hate all this "we don't support it" cr*p ;( It's like they have taken out all the actual cool features so modders can do them instead (wow that's not really so far from the truth). Is that lazyness I see?

Well you know, think of how much time it would take for them to put all that shit everyone wants in, the game wouldn't be done for another year

Yup. But it's possible that won't be ready for a year anyway. IF it's delayed again, these are things they should add ;)

The explosion being directed out of the barrel would be a result of fluid/air dynamics. Source will not have fluid dynamics at launch of HL2, so with your example the explosion will just come out on all sides of the barrel.

You can see this in the E3 2004 video in the part with the crane where the player drops the big box on the combine. The explosions from the barrels under the box come through the box.

Your situation could still be created with some scripting but it will not happen on its own.

Like Alec says, it they're delaying the game even more, then they might as well add those cool effects in.

By the time the game's released, we'll have 512 MB video cards...

That's bull. If they code it in the engine, then it takes them 2 seconds to code an implementation. HL2 will not have volumetric explosions.

Email Valve, you might get lucky and get an answer.

If the bucket's made from wood it would shatter. Since we know that metal can be broken up with source maybe if it were metal it would break into shrapnel. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

one word. watermelon. valve has done it many a time actually, including splintering wood. a bucket turning into bucket pieces would be no different. its just a mdl spawning more mdls when its health is depleted

ok i`ll mail it to valve...hope they don;t give me the "u might mod this in" cr*p :smoking:

What is the point in mailing this to valve.. it's a game for God's sake... I'll eat my hat if they have physically simulated explosions in this manner...

Well... Wood will break like wood. A bucket is generally made of wood, eh? So... It'd rip apart into tiny tiny pieces.

That'd be so cool... "Hey you, TAKE THIS!"

if the bucket will be ripped into shrapnell, wont that give us the ability to make really cool mines. put a mine (if they are in the game) behind some metall and you get a claymore mine... :naughty:

valve have said that you will lose health from flying objects based on their speed and weight (i think)

Ye you will... It's a realistic game. But I didn't get the mine thing though? An armed granade will explode, ... right?
