Fabula Monarchis
-------------------

Time Period:
An unspecified time before Gordon Freeman fights through Ravenhom's many horrors.

About:
The story takes place in the small, albeit densly populated town of Ravenholm. You play as Father <first name*> Grigori, the local priest. Ravenholm is a sanctuary for Resistance members, unspoiled by Combine or Xen infestation... As of now... Late one evening, the townspeople hear a disturbance coming from the old mine shafts. The priest goes and investigates along with the citizens, but brings along his trusty shotgun Annabelle, just in case. (He decided that he could never be too safe these days.) There, emerging from the mine shaft's entrance in a frenzy, is a bloodied, battered resistance member battling a Xen headcrab that is clamped onto his face. Cries from the fleeing crowd come from all around, as Father Grigori says a prayer for the man who has no chance of survival. He picks up his weapon, aims at the man's head[crab], closes his eyes, and fires.
Soon after, more and more Xen start to appear around the mines, and the graveyard. Curious citizens stray too close, and are taken away. The mines and graveyard are shut down, as the populus are disappearing faster and faster. After weeks, all that is left is the old priest, who many believed to have gone insane, locking himself in his rectory, and not talking to anyone.
Three weeks after the first Xen appeared in the last safe place in the area, Father Grigori came out and called his congregation.
'. . .People of Ravenhom,' he declared. 'Your judgement day is upon you . . . You will either fall a hero, and fight, or you will fall a coward, and hide. . . What will you choose? It is inevitable that you will die, why not make yourself a hero? . . .'

Gameplay:

Play as Father Grigori, defending Ravenholm and your people. When they are gone, survive as long as possible, to help any and all survivors who still need a safe way out of City 17.
Useable weapons include:

-Father Grigori's specilized shotgun, Annabelle
-A stake gun (pin the zombie invaders to the wall, anyone?)
-Flamethrower
-Dual Berreta Pistols
-Long Rifle
-Sawed-off .8 gauge shotgun
-Magnum revolver
-Chainsaw
-Frag Grenades
-and more

*Nowhere have I seen mention of Grigori's first name.

What do you think?

Interresting idea ;) However one has to wonder where Father Gregori manages to obtain that arsenal of weapons you have?

Yeah, I gotta think of something there... Plot device. Or I change the weaponset to something more believeable...

Teh church is r3411y 4n und3rc0v3r FB1 stati0n!!!!

No.

Any ideas?

Or...you could just limit weapons to some really basic guns, and have it so you can pick up certain props and use them as bludgeoning weapons? That'd be cool/feasable/AWESOME.

Yeah.. I'm contemlplating this..

I'm thinking of dropping some of the weapons, but having some of them [i.e. the chainsaw] in citizen's houses. And with the source engine, that's very feasible.. I just need to get myself a coder.. I can map, model, write, webmaster, but I can't code a lick.

Just in case you were wondering, Fabula Monarchis is Latin for Fable of the Monk, or Story of the Priest... etc, etc.

yeah i'd limit the weapons to something more basic. I honestly can't see a pudgy monk running around with dual berretas. Also the stake gun is a bit of a stretch.

i'd rather see gregori using makeshift explosives, shotguns, revolvers, and rifles

nah man father gregory orders all his weapons from ebay with first class recorded delivery

Sounds great, maybe you could have an intro level (like in HL) where you walk around as Father Gregory and you don't have to fight or anything. You just take a look in the city and everybody says hi to you.

There could also be a visit to the church (with music) :)

Yeah... I was also contemplating a mission-based game...

And I have decided to limit the weapons.. The traps would be hard to code (the missions) but I'm sure it's feasible.

You do trap assembly missions in the similar fashion seen in HL2 singleplayer where you had to look around and stick batteries into the little device to open the door so you could continue. Perhaps you can scavange around some rubbish and some rusty old cars to find a motor or something, then bring them to the trap location and stick em into the assembly thing (whetever it is, maybe you find a nice place to attach motor and compotennts together earlier in the game when the mission begins) to finish the trap. ;)

the whole game could idea could be that u have to kill all the zombies in each area of ravenholm and the harder you set it to the more zombies there are and less ammo u get??
