Fatal Error

I've been playing HL2 offline for a while and stopped playing because I needed an update because everytime I tried to load or save I got the following message:

Could not acquire necessary game files because the connection to steam servers was lost.

Now the PC I'm playing on is connected to the Internet. I connected to steam and it automatically updated (the steam server I think) but I still get the error message and therefore I cannot play the game. How to I acquire the necessary game files to play.

i actually fixed mine. i dont know about the other guys but i have a wirless internet card and it oviously requires a driver and soft ware. I just recently though that it might be my card driver cuz i wasnt haveing the problem be for i updated my card drivers. I just uninstalled the card and all its drivers and software ( the updated versions), reinstalled every thing with only the stuff the card came with and it all works now. I dont know if it will help anyone else but it worked for me.

I tried it. It didn't work. Why would I suddenly start having this problem anyway? Ecerything worked fine before. Now I can't load any saved games but I can start a new one.

man that sux... i really dont know what to tell ya. try finding some one with brians cuz I AINT GOT NONE... ya, i hate it when stuff just stops work'n for no apparent reason...
