Found earth like planet!

Cool, it's in our neighbourhood too.

Maybe they'll come and visit us sometime.

It could be newly formed and cooling down (like earth did oh so many millions of years ago). If, when it cools down (enough to sustain human life) we send a shuttle of a landing party of horny humans, then we might begin to spread our wings from this god-forsaken planet :)

Well you can tell by the atmospheric contents and the distance from the sun and you can calculate whether it is going to cool down

I don't really see whats so exciting about this...

A planet that is very much unlike ours in its makeup... except being rocky. Also unsuitable for life, which isn't a surprise.

And they also say they can't see the planet, they just 'deduced' what type of planet it was based on its 'wobble'? Okay, I guess I don't understand all that... i'm not a space physicist... but that doesn't get me excited in the least.

Oh well, guess i'm the only one. Another planet, that isn't really that earth like... meh. Find a planet that is like earth, and i'll be interested.

What, you think it'll just cool down like an apple pie on a windowsill? LOL. Human race would likely be extinct before it cooled down even a couple dozen degrees permanently.

You have to understand that this is the first planet we've ever detected in another solar system that wasn't a big gas cloud like Jupiter. Its really big news that we now at least know other rocky planets are out there.

And as far as "not supporting life"....you'd probably be surprised. :D

jep, thats right!

it will cool down but yes, it depends for how long it will, maybe 10000 years at least!? take note that the planet is orbiting a smaller sun than ours but it's closer to it and therfore the relationship might just be right to start life like it happened on earth!

the article says it's 7 times largers than earth: 1.) calculations can't be precise so maybe it can be smaller
2.) on a stupid logic lets say the planet would have a 7 times greater gravitation force...humans can live in a 7G world, altough with difficulty, but life there would be acustomized to it so there should be no problem (they would be much stronger)

I wanna be part of the Landing Party!!!!!!!!1
Stern will be the President

With the number of planets out there... I could of probably just guessed there were planets out there with semi similiar makeup. I mean... there's tons of planets out there, and people are always saying how there has to be other life out there. So why not?

Still though... it just doesn't tickle my excitement meter :-/

Stern will be the President

Ahahahaha.... hahahaha.

Okay, i'll stop.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

whats so funny?

I'm sure he's a great guy. I could probably be friends with him easily, since I don't act the way I do here in other places and tend to be rather less civilized on these forums. Its just the politics that we're so vehemently different about. Thats kind of why I don't talk politics with friends :)

Heh. Who cares, i'll be long dead before they figure out how to travel that far in a decent amount of time.

Who the hell would want to go anyways, with it being 600-700 degrees Fahrenheit. You wouldn't last a milisecond :-P

"7 1/2 times the size of Earth"
You two better work out before you go because everything is going to be a lot heavier. ;)

Tonight on fox, Planet X Survivor!

13 Lucky contestents, one 700 degrees burning planet, millions and millions of rocks. Only one of them will named by King and get to name there new kingdom. Who wins? YOU DESIDE.

There are probably thousands or millions of planets that might be able to support life in the future our support life right now, who knows
