Freeman-Hired or GMan Freebie?

I viewed a post earlier today that said the option of the Rebels hiring Gordon from the GMan was impossible because a) the rebels have nothing GMan wants and b) at the end of the game, GMan said that he is getting interesting offers for your "services" but that normally he wouldn't entertain these, meaning that you weren't up for hire in the first place. However, consider this.

What if GMan saved you from the Black Mesa incident in order to help the Rebels in the future? This would mean that GMan was simply trying to help the Rebels, and that they didn't need to pay him anything. However, after he sees how well you had performed in Half Life 2, he says that he is getting interesting offers, so NOW you are up for hire. This doesn't mean that you were up for hire before, it simply means that you chose to help him in Half Life 1, and now he pretty much recruited you as a mercanary after Half Life 2.

I never chose to help him. He just teleported me over to lots and lots of monsters at Xen.

No, because he can't see into the future. Half-life does not include time travel. Gman hired you because he and his employers were impressed with your skills during Black Mesa, and someone or something has hired you (from gman) to aid the resistance in ridding the combine presence on earth. I assume it was the resistance who hired Gordon.

At the end, Gman is merely saying theres some new, rather odd offers sprouting up.

Yeah, but in the end of the game Gman said that he normally didn't consider such offers, but given your skill proved by Half Life 2, he said he was considering them, which leads me to believe that you weren't up for hire in the first place, which also means that he simply "lent" you to the resistance. There wouldn't be a need to see the future, Gman would simply see that things were going bad for the resistance, so he let the Rebels know Gordon would be on his way. That's just my opinion anyway.

You (Gordon) didn't help anyone in Half-Life 1. Mainly you were surviving. And when G-Man sighted how good your performance was (he was watching you throghout HL1), he hired you to do the job in Half-Life 2.

Wrong.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't contemplate them, but these are extraordinary times.

He doesn't hire you because of your skills, as you see from this sentence spoken by G-Man.
