This just occured to me. When Breen goes on his rant about gordan being available to the highest bidder. I imagined some of the rebels in a room collecting money.
Rebel: Alright, so if we pool all our funds together we should be able to pay the G-man to have gordan help us, I'm sorry bob but we couldn't afford the Master Chief or the Doom marine.

Your comments

Masterchief would be cheap as hell... but im not going to rant about my irrational hatred for Halo

This brings up another question, a very large question:

Obviously G-man is sort of... outside of time and space, so money, as in currency, wouldnt be nessessary for him, so what does he accept as payment? There has to be something that bidding parties have that G-man needs. What could this be I wonder?

Somebody is going to respond with

"Teh G-Mans exepts T3h S3Xes as paym3nt! l0l!"

I just beat you to the punch

I had wondered that myself. Some people here said that Kliner and Vance made comments about "buying" you back, but I never picked up on those.

you have have to pay him in fine suits and briefcases

and chances are once this is over gordan will be payed in crowbars

The same stuff anyone would take as payment: Services, resources, property, technology. The g-man does not have infinite abilities or power.

It would be QUITE interesting, but I think what Breen meant was;

The Highest Bidder= Those Who Offer The Better Reward

if I was Breen, I'd give Gordon a lovely office in City 15. . . mayeb the Combine, Rebels, AND Gman, are ALL bidding for Gordon from some one else. . . a third party perhaps?

. . .

If Any of you say 'God' or 'Jesus' I'll kill you =___=

We are still left off with questions about G-man's original employers, and weather or not they still employ him. They were only mentioned in Half Life 1, and in Half Life 2, we are speculating hes a freelancer.

Gman has to need something from those bidding, while he isnt omnipotent, I would imagine he has no need for money, and resourses and property could be considered just an extension of money... but perhaps...

Riomhaire mentioned earlier the need for services. There are some services some people can provide that others are incapable of providing. Perhaps Gman is looking to expand his little business. Here is my theory.

Stop me if I say something that has been proven otherwise.

G-man started his business before the resonance cascade, but to start his business he needed a service that he could provide, and he found it: Gordon Freeman. Unfortunately for G-man, Gordon, in a sence, belongs to Dr. Breen, his administrator. The two made a deal, In exchange for Freeman, G-man offers Breen power, which he later recieves in the face of the combine. From there, G-man recieves freeman in the midst of the entire Black Mesa Mess.

Now G-Man controls his first service: The services of Gordon Freeman. He can be placed in a situation and he will find the right thing to do, and G-man knows this. But a business has to expand. This brings us to the payment.

G-man accepts Alyx as payment. Alyx's services similar to that of Gordon's Services. In exchange for Freeman serving the resistance, G-man gets a new stasis party to use in the same way he uses Freeman.

Yeah it's kind of confusing, I'll try to draw it out more simply:

G-man wants Freeman, so he buys him from Breen in exchange for power.

The resistance wants freeman, so they buy him from G-man for Alyx.

Weather or not alyx (or eli) is aware of this transaction is kind of up in the air.

There's my little theory.

But he didn't. He only took Gordon. The Vortigaunts had to get Alyx.

"recourses and property could be considered just an extension of money"
Er...no. Money is just a value assigned to resources and services so that entirely different goods may be compared in value more easily. If a farmed wants to higher the services of a lawyer, it's kinda hard to decide how much corn legal representation is worth. But if you assign an arbitrary value to both, ie, the corn is worth X dollars and the representation is worth Y dollars an exchanged may be made much more easily.

What if they acctually bought a duke? COMMANDO DUKE!

:D
