I searched a while, found nothing, and I am certain it's been asked before, so quick answer and that can be it.
But what is with the corpses? Really.
A slew of burned ones in the sewer, still can't figure that out, but most of all, those one's with the face taken off?
I see them near zombie type areas, but am I to assume they have been eaten? By zombies with fire hands? What is this?

I think mainly they are just there to add to the enviroment that. like during the water buggy mission u see one in a chair locked in a room, which to me looks like the combine were interrogating someone and tortured them, rather in ravenholm, its designed to be a darker/scarier level and they add to that effect. The burned corpses, from what i remember the ones in the sewers were all around explosive barrels, so lol how im taking it i guess combine burned them and then put flammable barrels next to them, who really knows about those. But they are minaly there to just add to the whole enviroment of the game.

Well yeah, the torture chair made sense.
I dunno. They're placed with just enough pattern to hint at soemthing, or maybe I'm just overdoing it.

Maybe they are just leftovers from when the cremators were in the game. Seemed a shame to throw away those nice models.

Cremators were responsible for the corpses.

and whats that crap in the strategy guide that says find all the skulls in the canals that "someone or something" has placed there?

Bah. War is Hell! Being Burnt to death is also hell!

Although why the heck there were explosive barrels in the sewers, next to corpses was a bit suss.

Actually, why are there explosive barrels everywhere anyway? The only real reason that they are actually needed is when the combine tip them on your head. But when they do, they shoot them, and then they go bang. So why are there so many around? Why do combine soldiers stand next to them and aim their pistol at -you- instead of having it built into their AI to run away from the explosives next to them?

Wha?

Ok I never tried half life or half life2 until 2 days ago. Seems like a great game although my computer does't do it justice, as it's way too slow. But it will be getting replaced in the next few weeks. I know this is a very lame question but while playing the halflife 2 demo "We don't go to Ravenholme" I get stuck a certain point and don't know where to go next. I get to the electric fence and found out how to shut off the power. Once I do that I kill a few more zombies and get back to the fence. I go over the ladder and up a couple more ladders to the roof. Then someone from inside a building welcomes me and kills a spider behind me. After that I can't find anywhere new that I can go to.

Thanks Guys

Look down, find a pathway fairly high up.

And you just thought you'd hijack someones thread....

Post it here: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=51

Dammit, he won't mow my lawn again!

Now I have to do it :(

Anyways, corpses just exist. Still questioning the explosive barrels in the sewers, though....

I just want to know about the face burned ones.
Those dudes are everywhere.

The bodies are there to add depth to smybolize the war between the humans and the combine when they took over earth...they are there to represent a struggle...a struggle they lost.......the struggle we lost.

But thats all changing.

maybe they got stuck with a headcrab and tried to burn it off, succeeding but scorching their own head in the process.

Because they add an element of gameplay, plus, they are fun to blow up.

What? You don't store your highly explosive barrels in your sewer system?

I know I do. Keep pests out. Like Rimmer here.

It's just a matter of blowing up the barrels without blowing up myself. I'll crack it one day...

Yes I will! I just haven't found the right mixture of gasoline to bathe myself in so I can slid in between the barrels.

Might I suggest you coat yourself in Oil as well? Make you more slippery.

Sorry to commit necromancy

Old post but hey.

My take on the corpses, is that they're semi-fresh, from the combine sweeping out the rebels "underground railroad", like the battle where you are locked down by the turret, so you take it out then head into that tunnel where the radio is. I think this would be a big clue that the combine are whiping out all the hidden underground stations that the rebels made, and leaving bodies behind. Maybe the barrels you see around are leftovers from when the combine were whiping?

1) Gas barrels were used to burn corpses.
2)Cremators followed CP's and helped burn resistance. (unlikely)
3) Valve built a generic corpse, and utilized them in game, to show where many had died.

yeah if it was the creamators that burned them, then i think you would see them walking around in the game somewhere. but who cares? the corpses look freakin awesome so screw how it happened. ;)

Note (unlikely)

Anyways, agreed. It really made me immerse into the game, and realize how effective the Combine were at policing C17.

Yeah. And to see one in a chair in the dam, or hanging off a rope in Ravenholm, or lying limply on a bed in the city, or even watching the Breen show here and there adds immensily, precisely because you have no idea how he came that way.
But seriously, all but seven corpses in the game are burnt to a crisp.
Why?

i always liked the one watching tv towards the end. what on earth happened to him to end up like that?

oh and as for the burning, maybe they aren't actually burnt, but just appear that way because their body is decomposing. kind of like a banana that turns black and shrively after sitting so long.

Oh yeah...
I mean, that's what I thought at first, but they seemed too... Not.
But yeah, that would make wicked sense.

You mean 7 map default corpses.

And that's because being brnt is stylish. It's a great trend.
