I really think people like Ventro and others (G-man=God?!?!?) are overating both these elements.

Half-life is about Gordon Freeman. Not about the Combine "Empire" or the "G-man". The greatest proof of that is that he walked out in the end (I don't think we'll see him in HL3).

G-man
we met this mysterious figure in HL1, where he appeared to call the shots, and was totally unaffected by the events around him. Does anyone remembers what he kept in his briefcase ? A few documents and a handgun. That's probably my only evidence he's human. Why would he keep a handgun in his briefcase if he's a superpowerful alien that has almost total control over time-space?
It could be there just to keep a front, but I doubt it. After all, he was in the middle of a risky situation, if he had access to some high-powered pulse weapon why would he have a pistol in his briefcase ? Just keep the documents if you don't want to blow your cover, no need for a handgun. So, if he's human, the best thing he can have is a few "contacts" in the interstellar world. Maybe he is a part of the "resistance" agaisnt the Combine Empire like Ventro thinks. But I think he doesn't really represents anyone but himself (and maybe a few others). He's got connections, and he does what he thinks is best.

The Universal Union

The Universal Union is just one Empire. I think the situation in the Universe of HL is much like the 19th century, where although the British Empire clearly dominated the scene, there were many contestants for the place. That is, no matter how big the Universal Union is, there is always vast amounts of Universe where other forces are ruling. Afterall, we've seen Race X (sure, they could fit along with other slave races, but they seemed to attack Xenians, which doesn't makes sense if they were Combine Slaves).

Opinions ?

Hmm i am not sure about this, i agree however that is completley ridiculous to think of gman as god...

Also, marc laidlaw stated that race x was only there so gearbox could make new enemies for opposing force and it didnt intifere with the actual half life storyline...

Well i believe the half life universe is open to such things, not just gordon, sure it focus's on gordon, but the combine are an increasingly major part of the storyline, and as raisign the bar states no race has been able to come to terms with the combine because they have so many arms to strike with...so obviously theyre a major player.

We're going to have to see Gman in HL3. After all, HL2 ends with Gordon flying around empty space on a train, doesn't it?

I presume you haven't ended it yourself. It ends with Gordon in some sort of "controlled" area that the G-man leaves ("This is where I get off"). It's probably a another stasis, waiting for the next "employer".

Yeah, Odessa Cubbage is your next employer:
"Righto, rise and shine old boy"

At the end of HL2 Gman says:

NO BATTERIES INCUDED!

No, wait he says:

I have been given some interesting offers for your services. Ordinarily, I woudn't contemplate them but these are extra-ordinary times, hmm?

So basically, he is considering taking those offers :|

I agree, it's pretty hard for Laidlaw to create an even more interesting caratcher than the G-man for HL3, but I have faith :D.

I could be more interesting than Gman. If you want, I could dress as a clown in the beggining of HL3 and throw pies at people :P

Still, I think dont think that Gman is human or 100% human. :) He can't even speak properly, dammit! :flame:

The Nihilanth says: "You are man, he is not man, for you he waits." The only person waiting for you after the Nihilanth is the G-Man.

The G-Man has speech issues, and he can also simply disappear from certain locations, like, you see the G-man, then you turn the corner and he's not there.

I personally believe that the G-man, and his employers are fighting against the Combine. This would explain why the G-Man was impressed by Gordon's killing of the Nihilanth, which liberated Xen from the Combine rule, and now G-Man gave Gordon the task of liberating mankind from the Combine by destroying Dr. Breen.

I believe that mankind has been liberated because G-Man puts Gordon back into stasis. If humanity wasn't liberated, Gordon would've still had to fight.

who do you guys think will be the next emplyer? is it still going to be G-man?

I agree with sfc_hoot and Gordons next boss will be an ally of G-man's. Mabey the new leader of the Vortigaunts
(Nobody make a masive point about wat makes you think the Vorts have a new boss?)
