G-Man = (The) G(ame)-Man

He is the storyteller, like Rod Serling. Why?

Because at the beginning of HL2, he shows you the inside of the citadel. How can he show you what will happen later in the game unless he is in a sense outside the game, hosting the show?

(Before, I thought that meant you were being brought out of stasis in one of the Combine cell-pods, but that is not consistent with the black mesa test chamber also being shown.)

The gman is certainly mysterious.

Valve are very creative with the storyline.

Im afraid well have to wait for HL3 to be surprised again.

HL2 was literally a test, his race has the power to stop time and basically control most things that go on around you. That's why he is always ahead of you from time to time, his race has the technology to time travel, and knows where you will be.

Well, from wat i've heard... he is also your employer.

Indeed. You get assignments, the G-man gets whatever is payed for your services. We don't even know what your exact services are. Sure, you kill combine, etc etc, but is it all just a game? Might just be. Could turn out to be a cool story.

Indeed. That's the problem with plots so shrouded in mystery and speculation - one wrong move and the whole essence of it being so good can be torn down and leave it with something that's just silly and disappointing.
Can anyone say "The Wachaowski Brothers," class?

Th--- The Wach-oooosskoo bruthers...

Did I get it right?

Seriously, El Chit is right, one wrong move in terms of the plot and it could be ruined. VAVLe are taking a bit of a gamble.....

What about VALVe?

but yeah I agree

I trust Valve, they always got something up their sleeves....I wonder what they'll pay the Gman in, though, pounds? dollars? Intergalactic Currency? :P

No, they pay him with peanuts. What else would he keep in his suitcase?!!

GMAN = Alyx. I've decided. I can't explain it, because well I would have to kill you, as i'm actually the gman.

The evidence for my theory was the fact that he shows you the inside of the citadel at the very beginning of the game. How else could that be explained?

His race has the ability to accelerate faster than the speed of light, you mean?

The Citadel existed at the beginning of the game though - it didn't appear halfway through. So really he's just showing you something about 1/2 mile away from your current position - doesn't involve time travel.
