grid showing + some other distortions

the grid is present all through the game (demo), also menus ingame are composed of it instead of having normal hl2 look. also on the first screenshot you can see some gaps in gman's face, it appears on other characters too.

my graphics card is geforce 7300 GS with 256 mb ddr, i have 1 gb ddr ram, 2.8 ghz cpu, directx 9.0c and latest drivers for the graphics card, also it's running on genuine steam under windows 2000 pro (e.g. not cracked or run on windows emulation)

I think i've heard of this porblem. Have you uninstalled the old drivers from your graphics card? Have you tried rolling back your drivers for your graphics card?

rolling back as shifting back to the old version? and no, i just installed the newest ones as an update to old ones, other games (e.g. FEAR) work ok with it. haven't tried other source games though. it's really annoying since even menus are pretty illegible that way...
