I know there's no Half Life 1 board here, but after waiting several hours for verification to Valve's forums, I decided to come here. Mods, if you feel the need to close the thread, sorry for the trouble. ;)

On the Interloper level for Half Life, whenever I jump into one of those opening/closing blow-you-out pits, when I fly into the air, the game freezes the audio loops for awhile, stops, loops for awhile again and so on... ALT+CTRL+DELETE doesn't do a thing, and I notice it happens only when a monster (I think it's those floating brainy things that look like they're from Duke Nukem) screeches. I tried downdating (term?) Half Life to 1.(lots of 0s and .s go here)9, updating drivers, but other than that, I'm not sure what could really be the problem. Any ideas?

For now I think I'll just play the Battlefield 2 Demo. :(

Open up the console version, open the console and type 'sv_cheats 1' and then 'noclip' (without quatation marks). You can now fly up to the portal. Once through the portal type 'noclip' again.

Well, is there an actual fix, rather than a walkaround? I'd like to refrain from using cheats the first time I play a game.

Also, this isn't source. (Those cheats sound familiar to those in Half Life 2)

Same commands in 1 and 2. Sorry, I don't know how to fix you're problem bud.

Using noclip won't solve the problem for when you encounter the Xen Controllers later in Xen anyway.

All I can suggest is re-installing etc, perhaps your CD might be scratched or damaged resulting in corrupt files?

I had the exact same problem on Interloper once. I've never seen such a severe crash caused by a game, enough to lock out the PC three-fingered salute (ctrl-alt-del).

The Difference is.. In HL2 when u type Sv_cheats 1 it will actually work in the level.. but in HL1 when u type in Sv_Cheats 1.. You gotta wait for another map to load.. so type sv_cheats 1.. quick save then quick load then type in noclip..

Well, I'm pretty ignorant of the Half Life cheats, but I suspected they might've been the same. Meh...

The CD? I bought the CD used off Amazon, and it has scratches, but no "real" ones. None of 'em even leaves shadows. It's still in a 9 outta 10 condition. I'll give 'er a cleaning anyway.

So, how can I go about a fresh install without losing my save points? I read that save points can become corrupted, so I went back a level or two (I had to fight that damn headcrab with testicles again) and it still happened, so I think my save point's okay. Also, is there a way to install Half Life so it shows up in Steam? I'm one of those few people that actually like steam. :p

If it is a corrupt game file, can it be downloaded anywhere... legal?

605Scorpion just install the game through steam (this means you will dl all the content manually so this should fix your problem) also you can type stopsound in the console wich pretty much is selfexplanatory(it stops any sound playing!!)...

to save the save games just go to the hl1 folder and drag the /save folde to another directory and then ofcourse move it into the new folder.

Thanks Selas! But erm, how do I install it through Steam without purchasing it?

On my steam list i have all the games but the ones i dont have installed are greyed out, if i right click and press install, it turns normal and i can play it..?

there is a way Scorpion, i had to do the same thing, but it was a good couple of years ago and cannot remember how i did it :(.

Wait, isn't the simple answer here just to not jump in the pits?

I mean, you're supposed to go through the cavern way anyways.

Is that, perhaps, what all those downloads are for? You know, those ones that give you the "client info", I think?

Edit: I downloaded the Steam Half Life installation from Gamespot and I should be chugging away in a few moments!

No go, still scratching my head here...

Edit: I just "registered a product I already own" and it gave me Half Life plus a whole bunch of other crap I didn't buy. Oh well! :naughty:
