i just tested hl2 on my new PC and you know what? such of laggy when everything on a high (anti-aliasing and filtering too) and only when i out antialiasing and filterinf off, everything runs ok. SOmetimes small details are so Pixelated (all the games).

Now im confused! i buyed a new PC for a gaming, but speechless now, my PC cant handle even a hl2 on all full, why should wait for lost coast and future games? I am dissappointed with my choice of PC  (waste of moneys)

Have any idea why it is laggy?

PS. my specs are under (signature)

In the video options there are stars next to what HL2 recomends for your PC. If the stars tell you to put it up to full and it's still slow then you have the infamous stutter bug which Valve is trying to remedy.

:( actually anti-aliasing and filtering was off when recommended :(, but because i thought i that i have high-end PC ( my stupid) i put everything on max, everything, cant even load old, not that old game. Disappoiment just like always i do: choose a wrong one or something will go wrong :( Crap, goodbye my dear money!!!

If your 6600GT really has 125MB Video-RAM, that could be a problem.
Your 6600GT is not "strong" enough for high settings with AA (128bit memory interface).

6600

Your Pc is very good 3.0ghz but... your Graphics card is only low/medium low range these days... You can but like 2x anti aliazling and 16x the other thing lol i dont remember the name.. But I do know you need a better graphics card like the x800 xt platium edition i recomend... Just sell your 6600gt and earn enough money to buy a differnt one..:dork: :D

it cant be ur GFX card, that 6600 is still a very fast card, i own a 128Mb Inno3d Geforce 6600gt & i can play HL2, BF2 FarCry on 1280z1024 with all setting on max flawless. Av u got unwanted programs running in the background of windows? Do u have spyware/adware clogging up ur system memory?

I reccomend u download this WinXP tweaks guide 1st...http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html, also since u av on-board sound turn ur sound quality to low, make sure ur monitors refrewsh rate is set to its maximum, av u got the latest GFX/motherboard/sound drivers?

what model geforce 6600 is it?

hmmm I have a system similar to yours (except it's 3.2Ghz), I'll check what my score is.

Edit: 87.44fps.

av u got ur refresh rate on maximum settings.

right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, click monitor tab, then make sure 'hide modes this monitor cant display' is ticked. Then set the value to maximum ur monitor can take. Ie mines on 1280.1024 @ 75hz.

Also goto start, run, type dxdiag, press ok, click display tab, then claick on the test buttons. Do u get any errors after?

Also do u know how to edit ur BIOS?

If so goto ur BIOS upon system boot up and look for your AGP aperture SIze, change this to 128Mb. Then apply & restart PC

You should be getting good performance on that setup. The video card is a bit old, but still good. What is the performance like in other games?
I have the same problem. My PC is fairly decent: P4 3.0ghz, Radeon x850xtpe, 1gb of RAM, yet I get shit performance in games. It's fine until things start moving around. I've seen my FPS dip below 25 in a firefight in Half-Life mods, yes, Half-Life 1, which seems utterly rediculous to me. It's the same with all other games... performance is alright until players/physics objects start moving around. Makes me think it's an issue with the processor, but i've tried everything and nothing helps. At this point I just accept it, because I want to get at least another year of use out of this PC before I buy another one. It's enough to make one go back to console gaming. PC gaming can be so frustrating (and expensive). :|

Is it me or is this Bozo Using a translator?

If not Very intresting way to talk, I LIKE IT!

I had a GForce 6800 and it ran HL1 at 18 fps.
Then i up graded to an ATI X800pro , now i get 189+ fps

very odd... i just played Doom which i think is using better graphics and engine. i put everything on Maximum and you know what? got 30 Fps and no lag experienced. Seems like Source Engine is not working well on Hl2. or ot could be this infamous stutter bug. Other thing was that every game ehich have anti-aliasing on it gives some feedback: lagg. Doom with antialiasing works well.

done, done and done nothing changed

EDIT: what if its Steam, because look at it (hl2 must be running) eats half of Cpu speed and Ram.

It's weird that you get lag problems such as these. I have similar specs to yours(except that I only have 3.0 Ghz and the almost-obsolete Geforce 4 MX. Yes, I know it sucks total ass.) and I can run the game on the highest settings the game allows me at 1024 X 768 with minimal FPS loss.

That's cause you're running it at DX7 and he at DX9

Either your a real dumbass, your drunk, or your rich. Anything above 6200 is damn good.

Meh, No need to insult the guy, although, i like the sound of the drunk idea ...... either way, a new video card does seem the good choice here.

.... Just going with the flow
