Help...I've lost my saves!!

I'm a HL2 forum newbie and I need help. A few months ago, I had to do a complete hard drive reformat and start all over. I thought I'd carefully backed up all my game saves, but the disk was apparently corrupted and I've lost everything. Can someone take pity on me and "loan" me some Half-Life 2 game saves?? I can't remember exactly how far I'd gone, but I remember completing the boat sequence, the coastal driving sequence, and I remember coming out of a mine shaft onto an old train track, but I'm not sure if that's where I stopped. Is it even possible to use someone else's saves?? If so, will someone take pity on the Mom of a 3 year old whose gaming time is sparse, and help me out?!!

P.S. Shameful though it may be, I was playing on the Easy setting, if that makes a difference, though I guess I'll take what I can get at this point.

The Coast driving sequence you referred to is actually after the mine shaft/train track (the exit to Ravenholm).

Does a big train bridge ring any bells?

Also, you can use cheats to get to wherever you want in the game. First, go to Options -> Controls -> Advanced and tick the "Enable Developer's Console" box. Then go back to the game, hit ~ to bring up the console, and type the following:

sv_cheats 1 [this enables cheats]

then, to go to wherever you want, type

map mapname

replacing 'mapname' with one of the following:

* d1_canals_01
* d1_canals_02
* d1_canals_end
* d1_tempanals_02
* d1_town_01
* d1_town_02
* d1_town_03
* d1_town_04
* d1_town_05
* d1_trainstation_01
* d1_trainstation_02

minus the * of course, thats just to show its a list

you're probably somewhere in the d2_coast levels.

you might have trouble getting guns, but typing

impulse 101

gives you full weapons and ammo. no way to get the other ones back without a bunch of tedious weapon cheats.

Open the console and type

sv_unlockedchapters 15

That will allow you to start from the beginning of any chapter, through the 'New Game' menu. If you want to start from a specific map, see the post before mine.

If that doesn't work, search the net and download the required saves.

I'd advise you to play again though. You might have missed Sandtraps.

The illegal version =p I remember d2_coast_04_dx60 it was test to see if they could convert d2_coast to run on dx6 and what it would look like.'


The "Under" levels I believe was the second canal sequence after you and alyx get to teh bridge and she climbs the roof. They moved it to the end of the game.

"DID YOU KNOW!?" That area with teh broken bridge used to actually be a bridge where you would have teh last fight with a hydra/boss type scene. And the bridge was not destroyed

Sorry it took me a while to log back on. Anyway, I'm just playing the regular store-bought U.S. version. When Ennui mentioned the big train bridge, it jogged my memory. And I did get to the end of that, at least, but I can't remember what came next.

To bbson_john, I as far as the sequence goes, I remember getting to this giant train bridge that I had to go under to do stuff before I could deactivate a force field. Then I could cross the top of the bridge while dodging trains. Is that at the end of the coast sequence?? If not, can someone tell me which chapter that might be? I figure if I start a chapter and it doesn't look familiar, I'll go to the previous one til I get where I left off back in February.

I'd love to replay the whole game, but I can only play every few weeks, so I'll be happy to get through it once!! Again, thanks everyone for the help!

The bridge is the end of the "Highway 17" chapter. Go to new game and click on "Sandtraps", which is the next chapter, or type "map d2_coast_09" in the console if the chapter's not unlocked.
