Hi,

I am currently studying for my PhD, which is to evaluate the use of Game engines for Paramedic Training. I have chosen half-life2 engine as the tool for development. I am looking for someone who can help me in this. I need to develop a MOD using some of the current models in HL2 or CSS. The idea is to have one of the Models as a patient who requires medical help etc. This model should be intelligent enough to react to certain actions. For example an injection of morphine etc would make the model react as if it was unconcious etc.

Anyone interested please let me know. I can pay some money for this. My PhD is not to evaluate how good of a progammer i am, it is to evaluate that game engines are a good way of learning
Therefor a number of scenarios will be developed from scratch.

Cheers

Hi Evil. this certainly sounds very interesting. Are you sure Hl2 is the right engine to use. Prehaps it could be easier with the torque game engine. are you sure you want to use existing models i could do you some models of patients and docters etc. could you give some more examples of the different actions and reactions you want the ai to respond to. Also you may want to seriously look at the pc game Emergancey Room 2. It is pretty much a simulation of beeing a doctor and treating patients. It is pretty old and you can probally pick it up for 5 pounds.

Hi Davina
Thanks for the reply,
The reason i am using HL2, i thought i wouldnt need much work to be done in terms of creating new patient and doctor models.

My idea is to change the exisitng models and maybe add a new clothing texture etc. The first scenario i want to create is an elderly patient who is sitting in a sofa or armchair and he or she is clinching his chest in pain. Basically this is to simulate a heart attack scenario.

The paramedic is called to the scene. who will first ask the patient their name age and what the problem is. You can also have a patients relative in the scene who the paramedics can ask in case the patient is not able to answer.

So for example paramedic can ask

paramedic: "Hello can you hear me?"
The patient can reply in a faint voice etc. or can seem very drowsy,
paramedic: "Can you tell me your name"
patient:"Ian"
paramedic "Ok Ian i am going to turn you on your side so just relax"
pateient: "Ok"
paramedic: "How old are you Ian"
patient:"err.. how old"
paramedic:"yes"
patient:"52"

What i would like to do is to have the paramedic ideally talk using the microphone to the patient. But if thats too difficult can just use the keyboard to select a question to ask. The 3D patient(was thinking of using Breen) can respond to the questions asked. The response can be created using faceposer and some recorded voice

The next step would be to give the patient an injection of some sort.
And the patient either goes to sleep or gets worst or some other reaction.

So if you could create a 3d patient slumped in an armchair and who is having a heart attack. That would be great.

I am new to this and also i teach almost full time in another subject, so thats why i need some help from someone.

Let me know what you can do and what sort of experience you have from b4 and hopefully we can create something

But if you have any better ideas let me know, that would be great

hope to hear from you soon

Do you have any programming skills yourself?
I'd pull of the usual PR jokes ect. but sounds like you need to get something done.

wrong game engine mate - the Elder Scrolls Oblivion would be perfect for this hard coded NPC interaction

This is perhaps the best idea ever to grace these forums, you know.

Stick with Source.

a lot of this sounds like you could do it with mostly map entities... cept for the voice recognition

he could have someone make the map then just handle the entities himself

start at the valve wiki and they have a list of all their entities... as for where to start? that's a hard one, maybe with the script stuff, it' like an hours reading

I dont think it would take particularly a long time.. I think the longer part would be the learning curve for you... just keep active in the custom mapping and coding forums.. I'll try to help out as much as I can... I have a lot of reponsibilities on other projects but hopefully I can help steer you in the right direction so you dont have to bang you head against a wall on one problem :)
