I have this problem with Half life 2, Colors in shadows are incorrect. I noticed the problem when I had an Evga 7900GT KO. Then I sold it, and bought an Evga 8800GTS. I still notice the problem. I have tried: changing drivers, re-installing, and altering settings within HL2. Nothing has worked. Here are some examples of what I am seeing. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!

Sorry Shasta, I'm stealing your job,

Did you buy the game, and do you have Steam?

It looks like his game is running on DX6.0! Do you really have a 8800GTS?

What we need is the Direct X level details in your advanced video options.

Info

Im using DX 9.0, Windows XP, a purchased version of the game and yes i have steam, and Nvidia driver 158.22. The Images are too bright b/c i raised the contrast in photoshop to really show what I am talking about. Yes, I DO know that I have an 8800GTS 320mb from Evga. In game Im using 2x AA and 2x AF. I can go much higher i know.

Jbrow I got those funny colored shadows once when I forced the game to run at directX 6.0 level. And the really low graphical quality in your pics ( Not only the shadows, but I see really low texture resolution, no character shadows, no bumpmapping etc which are also consistent with DX 6.0) Maybe it's because you increased the brightness.... maybe not.

Enable the developer console and type in,

mat_dxlevel

It should read 90, not anything else. If it reads anything else but 90, change it to 90.

Trial

Well, i checked the console. the Mat_Dxlevel was 95. So I changed it to 90, not only were my frames almost non-existant, but the problem still occured. I found yellow/red shadows again! I feel like HL2 hates me.

DirectX is at 95?!? Thats insane. Because there is no such thing as directX 9.5! As far as I know... Looks like your settings are screwed big time.

These are the only possible DX levels. There is 70,80,81 and 90. You could try these settings, but I think there is a much bigger problem here.

Did you ever make a autoexe file? Or alter the Default.cfg file?

What about other games except HL2? Do they run fine?

No I've never tried to make an auto.exe file, I noticed the same problem once when I played a custom map in Counter Strike Source, but for all the default maps (and most custom maps) It is non-existent.

Update

I found that the error also occurs in Counter Strike Source, the shadows in the map DE_Aztec are giving me the same visual error. I have a feeling it is my OS.

Just out of curiosity - try changing the value of "Color correction" in your video options. If it's on, turn it off, if it's off, turn it on; either way, see if that makes a difference. :)

Si

Yes, I tried adjusting the Color correction settings, and to no avail.
